Kitty had really meant to do something more for the first class, but then it turned out to be really freaking hot, and she was crabby and miserable and figured everyone else might want some wonderful air conditioning, too.

So, say hello to the town's movie theater.

"Hi, I'm cheating," she announced to the class when everyone got there. "I know most of you from last session, so we don't have to go around and do the full introduction thing. We're going to be doing typical summer things so you get a fun time out of things, and if there's anything you really want to get to, say so. And otherwise we're going to sit here in the cold and watch a summer blockbuster because... because."

There was sunshine in the Danger Shop today as the class filed in. As usual, their instructor was standing around looking slightly bored, waiting for them. And behind her, they could see the vast expanse of Disneyland Paris.

Yes, this was totally going to be a strict final. Or not. Probably not.

"Welcome to our last session, kidlets," Sarah drawled in greeting. "Dunno if you've actually learned anything over our time together. I most certainly have not, and thank fuck for that. But, a final is sort of expected, so that's what we'll be doing today."

She gestured lazily behind herself.

"This is Disneyland. Your final is to have as much fun as you can. Yes, I will be grading this shit." No, she wouldn't. "Get to it, brats."

Oh would you look at that? There was an actual Sarah present today! The Danger Shop was a park today, and the class was gathered underneath a tree, with quilts to sit on.

"Sorry about the last two weeks," Sarah began. "Portalocity miscalculated the time difference last week, so I was in England while you lot were studying here. And I still don't know what the fuck happened the week before that." She was maybe going to ask Cara about that, later. "But, it's your second to last class in this workshop. There might be a final next week, or there might not. Haven't decided yet, and the lot of you have no real way to study for it, so who the fuck cares? I'm still taking this as an excuse to have an easy class. All you've got to do is talk."

Like any of her sessions in this workshop had been particularly hard.

"Language. If you go outside your own country, you might have problems with it. Hell, you might even have problems with it in your own country, but that's beside the point. What I want you to do today is talk about what foreign phrases you think it might be useful to learn before you go off and get yourself in trouble. Like, say ––" She gestured around them. "–– I once knew a hero from here so I know that knowing how to say 'Pistä se puukko pois' could come in handy 'round here."

Was she going to tell them what that meant? Maybe. Her pronunciation was atrocious, by the way.

"So, what kind of phrases do you think it'd be good to know, just in general? Ones that get you out of jail? Ones that'll get you laid? The names of all the food they sell on the streets so you'll at least know you're about to eat goat testicles? Talk."

Much like last week, Cara stood in front of the class, like last week she was exceedingly unhappy about it. Unlike last week, class was in the Danger Shop and there wasn't a single list in sight. Instead, they stood at the peak of a hill, a rolling, green New Zealand landscape before them. A group of horses grazed nearby. There was also a black-and-white dog sitting with the horses.

"You have me again," Cara began, with none of last week's 'come hither' tone. "Electroclash isn't actually dead this time." Because after last week that did actually needed to be clarified.

"Apparently something people do on vacation is go on riding holidays around the British countryside," Cara said, gesturing to the horses. "So we're riding. I've organised activities for you along the way."

Having no idea what was involved in a 'fun, riding holiday' as opposed to the more serious travel she'd done, Cara had turned to the library for ideas on what those activities should be. Unfortunately for the class, she'd found some novels on the subject instead of an instruction manual.

Unlike the previous few weeks of this subject, Cara stood at the front of the class today. Well, not so much stood, as leant in a way that just coincidentally showed off her figure to best advantage.

"Welcome back to the Pros and Pros of Celibacy," she began. If she happened to speak in a low, throaty (yet remarkably well carrying) tone that made everything she said sound vaguely like a come on...that was just how she talked.

I'll be taking you... )

This week, the Danger Shop looked like a promenade in what looked to be some generic European city. The sun was shining, pigeons walked at people's feet, all that quaint summery stuff. Sarah was leaning up against a wall while she waited for everyone to gather 'round. There was a curvy redhead standing next to her with a big smile on her face. Some of the students may have recognized her from previous sims – their teacher liked reusing the simulations of her friends for this stuff. Not that she missed them or anything.

"Today, you're on a city holiday," she announced, pushing away from the wall and straightening up once most of the students seemed to be there. "With a friend. That way ––" She pointed into the distance. "–– is the main market square where they sell great handmade ice creams and all those greasy, sugary local pastries you're gonna tell yourself it's okay to have because it's a holiday." Not that she'd ever used an excuse like that. She turned and pointed in the opposite direction. "And over there is a museum full of dusty old paintings, where ––"

"Ooooh, a museum?" the simulated redhead cooed, cutting Sarah off. "Oh, Sarah, can we go to the museum? We should get a bit o' culture."

Sarah wrinkled her nose. "No, I wanna go get ice cream."

"Come on," the sim said, waving a hand, "we can go to the museum first. You don't even want ice cream, you just want to go down to one of the pubs by the market square and get ––"

"|Jen stop.|"

The simulated Jenny froze like a photograph. Sarah gestured at her as she turned to face the students again. "Did you get it yet? Your task today is to pair up. One of you wants to be boring and go to the museum, the other wants to be sane and get ice cream and not walk a billion bloody miles on cobblestone streets for some paintings. Also, the person wanting to go to the museum doesn't want to go anywhere alone because they're so afraid of getting lost." There was a significant look at sim!Jenny. "You need to negotiate and come to some sort of a civil agreement about what to do. Get to it."

Today the Danger Shop was a beach.

Sure, they could have gone to the actual beach in town but why bother, when it was so easy to manipulate the environment here? Like, say, in a way where it was really hot everywhere else but actually nice and cool underneath the big parasol Sarah had set up for herself.

"So, it's your first actual class, so it'll be an easy one." A beat. "Actually that might be most weeks. I can't believe they let me teach what I want here. Anyway, like I said, easy. Do beach things." She waved a hand around, to gesture at the various moddable beach fun equipment laying around on the sand. Beach volley ball stuff, snorkels, whatever. "You get extra points for creatively coming up with a way to make some shade for yourself to lie in, though. Or just doing something that amuses me. And before anyone asks, no, I don't know what you can actually get for the extra points. You should still strive for those."

Because it would amuse her, and that was a good enough reason.

"Get to it."

The class had been handwavily told to meet up in the Danger Shop, much like they would most weeks from here on out. Hopefully their instructor would manage to look a little less tired in the coming weeks, though. She looked like she hadn't slept at all last night. And that was because she actually hadn't. She'd been back to England and it was hard to time your return right between two universes moving at different speeds. She'd aimed for last night but had only just gotten here.

Regardless, the Danger Shop was the interior of a train today, with views of the English countryside whirring past outside, and their teacher was actually in civilian clothes, slumped in a seat towards the front. "Right, this is Summer Vacation 101," she drawled once everyone was seated. "And I'm Electroclash, though I suppose as this isn't a cape class, you can call me Sarah. Or Professor, but I'll probably think you're taking the piss." Because she was so far from being a professor of any kind, and knew it. "Also I have a paper that says I have a grad TA called Cara, so I guess that's the other person vaguely in charge here."

Yes, Electroclash and Cara. Exactly the two people you wanted heading a class about having fun.

"As this is the first session and I'm tired as shit, it's your basic introductions time. Name, how familiar you are with the concept of a vacation ––" You could never be sure in this place. "–– and what you'd maybe like for us to do during this workshop. I make no promises about listening, though. Right, you, random kid, go first."

Tim was a girl. That's all that will be said about this. Yeah right.

"Second to last class. Tomorrow we've got that trip to Busch Gardens. You can invite a friend if you want. Today we're watching a movie." He...she stood awkwardly for a minute, then went to sit behind the desk and started the movie.

[Up early for SP.]
[identity profile] grand-fallguy.livejournal.com
Today the class met in the Danger Shop.

"Planes, trains, and automobiles." Tim began. "These are the main ways of traveling from one place to another. There's also buses, walking, hitchhiking, and motorcycles, and bikes, but those didn't roll off the tongue as well. Which one you choose, depends on, how much time you have, how much money you have to spend, how far away your destination is, and of course, your own personal preference. Today you'll be given a choice. Either pair up, or go it alone, and choose either a train, a car, or a plane to get you where you're going.

"Also, I think I mentioned last week that we're not having a final. Instead, on Saturday the 15th I want to take you and one friend each to Busch Gardens. I'll try to make it an official school trip. But if I can't do that then I'm going to Busch Gardens, and you're invited."

[Up super early because I think it might get pretty hectic here and I don't want to forget. Please wait for OCD.]
[identity profile] grand-fallguy.livejournal.com
Tim was not canceling this class. He didn't feel particularly up to anything big though, so instead, the class would watch a movie about Roadside Attractions.

"There are pillows in case you fall asleep." he said. There was also coffee to help keep them from doing so if they wanted it. "And just so you know, I won't be giving a final as such. I'm gonna try to arrange a trip to Busch Gardens instead."
[identity profile] grand-fallguy.livejournal.com
Due to circumstances beyond my control, there will be no class today. Instead, I present to you, two questions.

1: Getting there is half the fun, true or false?
2: King's Dominion (Movie and TV themed rides), or Busch Gardens (rides and attractions based on the nations of Europe), which would you prefer?

[OOC: I fail. RL got in the way, figured this was better than posting a very late class.]
[identity profile] grand-fallguy.livejournal.com
Today there was a table covered with a lot of brochures. There were ads for hotels, parks, casinos, roadside attractions, restaurants, even states and cities.

"So." Tim said. "Thanks to portalocity, you can pretty much go anywhere in no time at all. But have you ever heard the phrase, getting there is half the fun? Maybe it'd be more fun to fly. Or drive. Or even take a train. Legally or not. Websites like Googlemaps and Mapquest are pretty good places to see how long it'd take to drive somewhere.

"Today I'd like you to look through the brochures, and bearing in mind two things, pick a place to go, and start planning to do so. The two things are, how much time do you have? Do you have a weekend? A week? Two weeks? The other is, how much money do you have to spend? This week, I'm giving you a weekend, and a budget of say, 150 dollars.

"And due to a very valid point made on the radio last week, give me some ideas on a field trip you'd like to take. Again with a weekend as the schedule. I have some ideas of my own, but let's hear your thoughts."
[identity profile] grand-fallguy.livejournal.com
Tim had decided to give up on the fancy futuristic (from his point of view) blackberry thing he'd gotten, and was completely failing to figure out how to use, or remember to bring with him, and just use the old fashioned pocket calendar. Which he promptly forgot to take out of his pocket before washing his clothes.

This is what happens when you get too used to having a Hobgoblin butler around.

"Hey guys, welcome to Summer Vacation for Beginners. And only halfway through the summer. My name's Tim Desmond, for those of you who don't know me. Now I don't know if you're all from places that have summer vacation or not. So just in case, here's the deal: Traditionally, schools in the US run from September to May or June. Historically, as I understand it this was so kids could go help out on the farm. Nowadays it's a handy way of figuring out when you're done with a certain grade.

"It's a time when some kids get sent to summer camp, like here. Or to summer school. Like here. We've got the best of both worlds. But it's also a time when lots of families take vacation trips. Amusement, and National Parks do a lot of business this time of year.

"Today, in keeping with tradition, we'll do introductions. Say your name, where you're from, even if you don't think we've have heard of it, and where you'd like to go on vacation. It can be someplace you've never been, or some place you'd like to go back to."

[Up late due to technical difficulties. Sorry. I wrote this first 'cause it made me feel like I was apologizing as soon as possible.]
