Evie's... pretty much just wandering around the mouth of the site, taking pictures. Because while she's fine to do excavation work, it's pretty cold in the cave, and yeah, she might be having some claustrophobia issues. Just right now.

[very limited OCD going up; not much going on in Archaeology tonight]

Evie was getting the last of the ropes in place, and the lights. And then it was done.

*Real* excavation work could start next week.

Right now, she was drawing and photographing the last parts of the wreck that hadn't been done before.

A boombox might be set up on the deck, belting out Jake's CD. Which would explain the Johnny Cash.

[ooc: I'm off and on tonight. Homework + dinner guests. Have at the wreck, do what you will to the 16th Century Galleon, just don't break it aside from the already-existing hole in the bow.]

Evie was bouncing as she waited for the rest of the Club to show up. The field trip to the Alexandria Archaeology Museum had already been delayed once, but now they had a chance to see some *new* artifacts, well, as new as they got, while Dr. Jackson worked on the Albatross site permit.

Yay!

Having not made much progress in finding the Albatross the week before, but at least having a map for where they'd been, the Archaeology Club managed to cut down on some time and start in the middle of the caves.

They'd also brought power bars, in case they needed to think hard.

High tide was at 7:42pm.

[ooc: limited OCD going up. Sorry this is so late; one way or the other, the Albatross gets found tonight. So just ping in and go crazy. ]

Evie was jumping up and down, standing in front of the entrance to one of the sea caves, as much from excitement as a need to keep warm. She had her map, electric torch, mackintosh, several mining hats with lights on them, chalk, rope, and her notebook.

Time to find the Albatross!

"Should we split up, or stay together?" she asked. "I rather think we should stay together, but the cave does fork into two paths just beyond the entrance."

Evie is entirely too gleeful today. Possibly it's all the Caff-Pow, possibly it's the doughnuts that are open in the box on the table.

"I found us another excavation site!" She spread out a map of the island on the center table. "It's just north of Selkie Cove. Or, at any rate, it's supposed to be. The wreck of the Albatross, a Spanish privateer that was run aground in 1592. Captain Gregory Thorpe and crew had to abandon ship and head into the mainland, and weren't able to find the wreck later. It could have ended up in the sea caves along the shore, and it definitely hasn't been excavated since."

"I think next week, we should go out to the site and try to ascertain where it might have ended up. As well as making lists this week, of what we'll need to start a full dig! I'm going to look for more information in Special Collections this week, to narrow the search down, if anyone else wants to help with that."

Evie was looking very sadly at the maps today. There were nice buttery croissants in a basket next to her, and coffee and Caff-Pow! She'd perk up after a sip of Caff-Pow!, then look sad again.

"It looks like my research was inaccurate. I have to find some new sites to investigate, because one of them was cleared away, the other one turned out to be on the mainland-- and the last, the ship, might still be there? But the location could be anywhere." She sighed. "Anyone have ideas of what to do in the meantime?"

Evie was vibrating a bit, and she'd sneaked in a box of doughnuts from Jeff, God of Biscuts. The Caff-Pow she'd had before she came to the library probably accounted for part of this, but the map spread out on the table had to be part of the rest of it.

"Good afternoon! For those of you who hadn't met me before, I'm Evie Carnahan. I'm so glad you could make it this afternoon to the first meeting of the Archaeology Club." She nodded over to Dr. Jackson. "Dr. Daniel Jackson has graciously agreed to be our faculty advisor. I thought maybe we could just brainstorm today, but we do have three prospective dig sites for this semester that need discussion."

She pointed to a little area where the Wildlife Preserve met the edge of Chimera court. "There used to be a lighthouse here, which was broken by a storm and then semi-demolished in 1817. And over here--" Evie pointed to an area between the Rocky Bits and the Fandom High property, "Used to be a manor owned by the Luckleys, which burned down in 1927. But my *favorite* possible site is over here." She moved her pen to mark the beachline of the preserve. "The Santa Melinda supposedly washed up somewhere along this coastline in 1701."

"Dr. Jackson's going to take care of the paperwork for the first site, but we need to decide which onethat's going to be, first."
