"A Mummy..." Why yes, Drac was still dealing with the monsters that were his BFFs. Why? BECAUSE HIS ORIGINAL LESSON PLAN HAD BEEN ALL ON THE EVILS OF HUMANS! He felt he'd adjusted it well, though. "Is a monster that technically is a human; it's a corpse that is reanimated, similar to a zombie. But, where the zombie is decayed and often missing parts, the mummy is actually preserved. Many times, to the point you cannot tell if they are actually dead or not."

"While mummification can happen all over the world, and even sometimes naturally, not every mummified human becomes a Mummy. Here is where the strangeness of the human mind comes into play: Mummies, according to humans, come from Egypt."

"For once?" Drac shrugged at the class. "They're right. Now for the rest."

His notes rose from the desk and came to his hand. )

"Werewolves" was written in large neat letters on the white board today!

"Human information about werewolves is not very consistent." Drac started as soon as the last of the students had taken their seats. "In fact, a good deal of it is identical to what information there is about other monsters, showing a distinct lack of imagination as well as misinformation. In one case, the werewolf (or 'wolfman', I am not sure of the difference, there) even rises from a grave during a full moon. Which technically makes the werewolf a zombie!"

Drac paused. "Hmm. That's the second reference... I think I will add Zombie to our syllabus. Possibly in place of Witch." Mental note made. Hopefully all the students made an actual note?

"Werewolves are depicted as being evil and eating humans and livestock... but beyond that, there isn't much in the stories about what werewolves do or did that humans fear and hate them."

Drac threw up his hands. "Werewolves have families, fall in love, make stupid decisions, hold jobs, laugh, swim, play pranks, cry, mourn, fall asleep in the middle of conversations, sometimes have fleas, have bad fashion sense... and look funny in orange. Seriously. If you have a werewolf friend, warn him or her against orange. Something about the fur. I don't get it, but it's true."

Moving on... )

Both Drac and Mavis were already in the room today, as was hopefully going to be the norm. Mavis was still a wolf, though, which was hopefully not going to be normal. Drac was reading that stupid Dracula novel again. It had talked about transforming into a wolf, so maybe it had some clue about changing back from one? Mavis didn't seem as concerned; she was bouncing around the class, being chased by a zombie playmate. Well, technically it was just a zombie, a relative of one of the bandmembers from Caritas, but since Mavis had his armbone and was running around the room with it, he was unwittingly her new playmate.

Mavis seemed to find it humerus humourous?

Startled at the arrival of the first of his students- he hadn't noticed how much time had passed!- Drac closed his book and smiled as the children filed in.

He stood to begin his lecture: )

Drac was already in the classroom when the students entered. As was a very excited black wolf pup with bright blue eyes. And fangs.

"Good even..." Drac rolled his eyes. " I mean, good afternoon. Welcome back to my class on Human and Monster relations."

He nodded to the wolf pup sniffing ANYONE who would let her until a whirl of purple mist lifted her into the air and brought her back to him. "This is Mavis, my daughter, for those who are curious. She is, ah, not herself."

By which he meant physically, since she was most definitely still herself in personality. Proved by her settling into the mist that was supporting her and grinning broadly at the class as if to say "hi humans!" all over again.

He sighed, adding a facepalm. "Puberty. Please let it be puberty," he muttered.

Drac shook himself and looked back up at the class. "This does, however lead me very well into my first real lecture of the class: Misconceptions about Vampires."

Drac's eyeroll. Let me show you it! )

From the way Drac strode into the classroom, head high, confident, cape billowing majestically... you wouldn't guess that he had just been led through the worst of the sewers from the hotel by a snickering gremlin.

He'd changed his clothes just before entering the classroom, though, and not even a hellhound could smell any of the sewer on him now, but a twitch at the corner of Drac's eye that meant SOMEmonster was going to get in trouble when located later.

He gave the room a glance; almost everyone was human-like in appearance! Drac dropped his stoic pose for half a moment to sag in despair that even here the children felt they should have to worry and fear about how they look.

He straightened quickly, though and nodded. "My name is Count Dracula, and I will be teaching relations between Monsters and Humans. Something with which I am very familiar." Another twitch.

"Today we will start by getting to know each other. Let us go around the room and say our names and what type of monster we are. And maybe something that you want the others to know about your kind." He gave a side glance. "Like how gremlins are totally not to be trusted, even when you pay them."

"My daughter, Mavis, will be my Teaching Assistant, and I will be choosing another before the end of class today. Oh. And please, feel free to return to your normal state," he waved a hand dismissively. Seeing his fellow monsters hide was making him depressed. "We are all monsters here; no need to fear."

...

He gave a dangerous smile full of fang. "Unless you're a gremlin named Gregory."

[Yeeeah, today Drac twigs to the fact that the primary population on the island is not "monster."]
