They were in the classroom one last time, which Brooke was actually a little sad about. Also, relieved she survived.

"It's our last class, and hipefylly you've learned some things," she began. "We're not doing a traditional final, because it feels messed up to spring that on you when I can't remember dates to save my life. So instead, you're getting a little essay to do in class. I want you to pretend you've lived a full life and get to be a topic of this class, and write what you'd want me to say about you. What have you done? What kind of accomplishments do you have under your belt? How have you helped people, or been generally awesome? Once you finish, feel free to leave and enjoy the rest of your day!"

Class was in the Danger Shop today, and Brooke was here, looking vaguely annoyed, with her hair in a messy bun. Because this morning when she'd tried to brush her teeth and found eggnog running from the faucet, she was not chancing a shower.

Anyway, they were on the White House lawn today. But a good White House. Like, from years and years ago. Not one that was tainted by the current level of grossness.

"Morning, everyone. Today we're going to talk about Eleanor Roosevelt. who had bigger problems than eggnog )

Today, the students would show up at the Danger Shop, which was looking like an airfield. With an old plane on it.

Brooke was only a little worried about what the space types would think of it.

"Hello, first off, sorry about last week. There was a gremlin, and it was a thing, and... Did anyone actually try the stuff? It didn't work, right? No one's married? Okay. Anyway, welcome to learning about Amelia Earhart )

Today the class was in the classroom, handouts ready on the students' desks when they arrived, and there was Brooke, looking a little old fashioned.

"Good morning, class!" she greeted them, pleasantly. "Today I'd like you to refer to the guides that I left for you for a moment, and then we'll discuss how to find a husband. I'm sure you know how important that is in this day and age, and we're going to discuss which of these ideas would work for you personally. I expect you to try at least a few of these methods before the next class, and I'd like to answer any questions you may have."

Was this some kind of experiment, maybe? Brooke was trying to teach them a lesson about feminism by giving them something this insane?

Nope, it was totally a gremlin bite.

Or was it?

(It was.)

Today the class was in the Danger Shop, and hello sports! They were going to be seated in the stands at a tennis court, surrounded by fans. But first!

"Today we're going to talk about Venus and Serena Williams," Brooke began. there's so much tennis, you guys )

They were back in the classroom today, and the TV wasn't even out.

"Morning, everybody. I have no idea what time it is so if I'm wrong at least you all were too," Brooke greeted them. "If you've watched the news at all, or gotten on any kind of social media, or looked at your phone, you're probably aware that there's an election coming up tomorrow. And there's a history to that if you identify as a woman, because we didn't always have the right to vote in his country. Why, you ask? Because dudes. cut for a bunch of women named today )

"Morning, everybody," Brooke greeted them when they got to the classroom. "We're going to have an easy class today, because I'm giving you an assignment to do." Well, Paris at least might appreciate that. "Today we're talking about Katherine Johnson, who you might've heard about the last couple years. short class, still talky )

Guess what, class! It was Movie Day With a Purpose again! The TV was out, and there was Brooke at the head of the class.

"Hope everybody had a great homecoming. Now it's back to work," Brooke said, and looked back at the TV. "Relative work. Today we're going to be talking about Hedy Lamarr, who, if you've heard of it, it's probably because of her acting career. words! )

Yesterday's sore throat had turned into today's list of DayQuil symptoms, so early this morning the students would be getting an email.

No class today, but coming off vacation you probably didn't want to go anyway. Back next week!

Ugh.

Class was in session in an actual classroom today, which was mainly because Brooke was going to rant and then let everyone leave!

"Hope everyone had a good weekend with any family members or friends they had in town, or that you successfully avoided anyone you didn't want to see," Brooke greeted them. "And now we're back to work. I'm not sure how much you guys pay attention to the news here or anything, but if you do, you might've heard some names. So today we're going to learn about Anita Hill. had to be timely with this one )

The students had been instructed to meet at the causeway today, because they had a portal to catch. Once they'd gone through and gotten to their destination, in a bustling downtown area, Brooke started to talk.

"Welcome to Manila!" she announced. "This is in the Phillippines, a country in Asia, and today we're going to talk about one of its natives, Fe Villanueva del Mundo. here be pediatric awesomeness )

It was back to the classroom today, where the TV was out. You know what that means!

"Okay, the thing about this class is that when we have a movie day, it's because it was actually the best way I could figure to help you learn about the woman in question," Brooke greeted them. "Today we're going to learn about Malala Yousafzai. shorter but still wordy! )

Before classes today, Brooke sent out an email.

Sorry for the late notice, but there won't be class today. Back to work next week!

Hopefully everyone knew to check their email by now!

Today the class was in the Danger Shop, because Brooke was pretty sure she knew how to program it without it glitching now. The students would find themselves on the sides of a closed-off street filled with dressed-up people and a lot of little British flags.

these will probably be wordy classes )

"Good morning, everybody," Brooke greeted the students once class had started. "My name's Brooke Davis, and this is Badass Women You Should Know. History is filled with women who did awesome things or created some of the stuff that makes up the way life is today, and we don't hear enough about them. We'll be focusing on history from around the world here, by the way. Like Earth, current day 2018. I'm kind of new to teaching and I'm going to be learning as I go with this, I don't know if I can find out about a ruler from another world on Wikipedia. But if there's someone from your neck of the woods who should be covered, talk to me and maybe we can work out an extra credit thing.

"So!" she went on. "We're starting easy today, with introductions before you're sick of them. I want your name and where you're from, and someone who inspires you, even if it's like your mom. And if you have a woman that you definitely want to see covered in this class, name her. Let's start with you."

It'd be a casual class that the students walked into, with Shira and Annja arranging and rearranging trays of pastries and other totally moddable goods on desks in the classroom.

No hard finals for this class, Annja had decided. The students had dealt with too much. But still, she'd give them something that hopefully made them think.

Shira took her seat as Annja spoke.

"All right, everyone, nothing too difficult -- your final is to tell me what you enjoyed about the class, and one thing you learned that you didn't know before."

[OCD on the way! Annja modded with permission.]

When people showed up for class today, they would find a somber Annja who seemed to be paying close attention to who was there and who was not. There were also several televisions with DVD players and quite a lot of food.

"I'm going to be honest and say that I couldn't seem to get my class worked out right today no matter how hard I tried to. Then I decided that it didn't really matter in the grand scheme of everything that has been going on." She ran a hand through her hair. "I have movies and I have food to go along with whatever movies we decide to watch -- or pretend to watch."

[[OOC: I am still having issues with LJ and then Annja decided that no one was in any shape to pay attention to a long lecture on historic women when they were trying so hard not to become history themselves.]]

When everyone had taken their seats in the Danger Shop today, there were images around the room of the same woman.

"As there is so much to cover with this one woman, we'll only be covering part of her life up until she took the throne and then next class we will finish her. She is definitely one of the best examples of not being what history would call a well-behaved woman. However, next to Joan of Arc, she is one my favorite historical women."

Annja leaned against her desk.

"If there was ever a Queen that went through hell on the way to claiming her rightful throne, that Queen was Elizabeth I of England. Her battle started even before she was born as her mother, Anne Boleyn, married King Henry VIII. As we saw in the movie a few weeks ago, things did not go very well for Anne at all. When Elizabeth was not quite three years old, her mother was beheaded by her father on some rather trumped up charges. Because of this, Elizabeth was declared illegitimate and lost her title of Princess. Even at that age, Elizabeth missed nothing as she was said to ask someone in her household why the day before they had referred to her as my Lady Princess, but on the next day as merely my Lady Elizabeth. This attention to detail was something that would end up serving Elizabeth well throughout her entire life."

When the students got to the class today, they would see Annja up front next to a large screen and a DVD player off to the side.

"Next week I plan to have a lesson about one of the greatest monarchs of all time, so it's only fair that we devote some time to her mother, as well. Therefore, movie day. It's not the best movie about Anne Boleyn, but it is one of my favorites."

When the class entered the Danger Shop today, they would see that they were standing on what appeared to be the deck of a ship. In the distance, there looked to be a fierce sea battle going on. When everyone had arrived, Annja smiled.

"It's Friday, it's Homecoming weekend and I know that most of you would rather be elsewhere right now than in class. So, we have a short lecture, today." She gestured at the sea battle. "The Battle of Salamis. Not many have heard of it because it gets caught up and lost when discussed with a great battle that happened around the same time, the Battle of Thermopylae. The Persians wanted Greece, Greece had a strong opinion on that. It is from this war that the legend of the 300 Spartans has risen."

She tilted her head. "This, however, is not Sparta. This is Fandom and today I wanted to tell you about a little known queen named Artemesia. Artemisia was the queen of Halicarnassus, and commander of the Carian contingent for the Persian side. In essence, she was the first female naval commander. In 480 BCE, when the Persian king, Xerxes, invaded Greece, queen Artemisia of Halicarnassus, commanded five ships from her small state. She appears to have behaved bravely during the naval battle off Artemisium, and advised against the naval engagement at Salamis. When this battle did take place and the Persian fleet was already defeated, her ship, trying to escape from a Greek captain named Ameinias of Pallene, rammed the ship of Xerxes' ally, King Damasitheos, who did not survive this attack. According to Herodotus, Xerxes had not seen how this happened and was unaware that the sinking ship was one of his own, and therefore praised Artemisia's courage by saying My men have become women and my women men."

Annja leaned against the railing of the ship. "After the battle, she advised Xerxes not to stay in Greece, but to return to Asia. He agreed with her counsel, but he probably had his own reasons for following her advise. It is later said of her that she escorted Xerxes' sons safely from Greece to Ephesus. Nothing much is known of her after that and it is assumed that she returned to her country and ruled well until her death."

When all of her students had arrived, Annja smiled. "I hope that you all survived your visitors last weekend with the least amount of stress and awkwardness as possible. I had thought about doing a movie day today, but I was unable to find any really good movies about today's subject." Annja's definition of good tended to be measured on how much they were based on fact.

"I'm sure that some of you have heard the term Jezebel. In the modern times of this world, it is used to refer to a woman that someone believes has loose morals or ulterior motives for something." Having been called that a few times in her life, Annja was all too familiar with that concept. "However, Jezebel is a woman found in religious texts similar to the bible and there are a few mentions of her in historic texts as well."

This is Jezebel in Hell... )

When the class entered the Danger Shop today, they would find that the room resembled the grounds outside of a great castle structure. There were blankets spread out on the grass and they were obviously there as a place for everyone to sit.

"Kimbolton Castle," Annja began after all of the students arrived. "Certainly by the standards of the day it wasn't the most impressive of castles, and in fact, it would become famous because of the fact that it was used as basically a prison for one important lady. Of course, during her time, her husband did everything he could to diminish how important she was, but she never gave up standing by her faith and the truth. I'm speaking of Katherine of Aragon, Princess of Spain and Queen of England. She had the unfortunate prestige of being the first wife of King Henry VIII."

When the students arrived today, they would find images of the same woman in different scenes around the room. Including, unfortunately, one that was sadder than the others.

"We're starting with someone incredibly close to my heart, Joan of Arc," Annja said after everyone had taken their seats. "Jeanne d'Arc, the Maid of Orleans. She's thought to be a national heroine in France, and she was made a saint long after her death. Her friends and allies thought she was spectacular and her enemies thought she was crazy. What did she do that was so against the norm of her time?" Annja looked around her class. "She was a soldier. She led battles against the English in order to put the rightful ruler of France, Charles the Seventh, on the throne. Not only was she a woman, but she claimed divine guidance. She had her first visions at the age of twelve when she saw angels who told her to drive the English out of France. As you can imagine, this cause quite a stir at the time. She was dismissed and called foolish, and yet she continued to petition to be allowed to sit in a council and to lead an army."

Shira had gotten a handwavy note from Annja saying she wouldn't be in class, as well as the DVD of the movie she was supposed to show the class instead.

Thankfully Shira had finally mastered how to work a DVD player.

She was still a little bewildered as class started; this was what happened when you weren't sure how you ended up as a TA in the first place.

When the class arrived in the danger shop, they would find themselves surrounded by several images of women from different time periods. Annja was leaning against a pillar and when the last student arrived, she pressed a button on the remote in her hand and the images froze.

"Welcome to Well-Behaved Women Rarely Make History. I'm Annja and I'll be your instructor." She gave them all a smile. "I know, I don't look much older than most of you, but trust me, I have the experience and the knowledge. I have a Masters degree in Archaeology and I'm working on my Doctorate. I want to say that I commend all of you for deciding to take a class that will rerquire thinking and interaction on a Friday afternoon." She looked around the class. "Starting next week, we'll begin the tour of history and the women that we know a great deal about -- and those that we do not. However. today's class is going to be more laid back. We're going to do introductions -- yeah, I know, but it's still the first week, so I get to make you do it. I want you to tell me your name, your grade, why you took this class and a woman in history that you admire or want to learn more about. I'll even go first."

She straightened. "I'm Annja Creed-Nast and I graduated from Fandom High. You can call me Annja, or, if you absolutely must be formal, Mrs. Nast. I will warn you, however, that I'm not used to being called by my married name. My husband also lives in Fandom and runs the sporting goods shop in town. As for female historical figure, I feel a particularly strong pull to Joan of Arc, or Jeanne d'Arc." She looked around the room and gestured at a student. "And now your turn."

Before class ended she lifted a hand. "Could I please speak to Miss Blythe and Miss Shira after class."
