"You've all done...interestingly in this class," Lana said. "I hope you've learned a bit about what to expect from each other and how that might help you work together."

She adjusted the Danger Shop controls, and the end of the room they were in became an armory. "Choose anything you like, powers also completely welcome, when you step outside that door, everything is hostile. Keep each other alive!"

She had been tempted to bring popcorn, but today she was more excited to just bring her lightsaber.

Lana stood in front of the class with a large box. When everyone was there, she nodded to them. "This was recommended as a team-building activity, and it seems somewhat less idiotic than last week's, so here we are."

She opened the box and dumped a huge pile of puzzle pieces on the ground. "It's only two-dimensional, at least, and all the colours are on one side. This is what it looks like when it's done. Enjoy."

She had brought popcorn. She might even share.

"Right!" Lana clapped her hands. "Welcome back. Today we're going to do an Earth exercise that I discovered." She had personally found it to be horrible, but she wasn't going to be the one doing it, was she?

She tapped at the Danger Shop controls, and was rewarded with a platform about five feet off the ground with stairs going up to it.

"This is called a 'trust fall'. One at a time, you'll go up there and fall off of it backwards. Everybody else will catch you. No Force abilities, magic, wings, or far-jumping - you have to just fall, and trust the rest of us."

After all, this place had safety protocols, didn't it?

"It behooves you all to catch each other, because after all, they'll be catching you sooner or later."

Lana grinned cheerfully as everyone entered the room. Today it was made up like a somewhat posh cantina, plush benches and dim lighting, mostly from the tables. When everyone was there, she stood at the bar and spoke.

"It occurs to me that I've been neglecting one of the most important aspects of cooperation - communication. If you hate somebody, they can of course just be a terrible person, but it's also possible you're operating on faulty data, and you simply don't know each other well enough. Or even if they are a terrible person, if you know more about them, you may learn how best to avoid them. So today's task is this - we're doing a version of those three-minute dates the bar has. Not dating this time, but talking. So, half of you will sit at one side of the tables, and the other half will sit on the other side. We've got an hour, so you've got ten minutes to talk. After that, one side will get up and move one table down, and you'll talk with the next person. Your goal is to discuss whatever you like, but you can't just sit there, and you want to not annoy each other."

Well, any more than necessary. She wasn't optimistic with some of you.

"By the end, you should have at least spoken with half the class, and hopefully you'll have a better insight into each other."

She divided them in two and sent them to the tables.

"Welcome back." Lana eyed them all. "Last week we got a taste of what everybody's inclinations were, so this week we're going to hopefully start overcoming them. The task is to get from here to there." She pointed at the far side of the Danger Shop, where there was a platform. "To get there, you will have to walk or pull each other across the rope bridge," which was over a pool of water, "then walk through the sand, which is a simulated mine field - you can see where the mines are from the other side. Then climb the wall or get pulled up to get to the platform."

She gave them - especially a few of you - a look. "Whoever has the most points at the end wins. You get five points for making it to the platform. You get another two points for each time you help another person. You get another point for every time you let someone help you. And if you pressed the red button last week, you're starting ten points down."

She crossed her arms. "Get started."

Class was back in the Danger Shop, and Lana looked faintly concerned, which meant you probably should be, too.

"I'm not convinced this exercise will work with non-lethal incentives, but we're going to try it, and I encourage you all to take it as seriously as if it were life or death." The lack of killing students was definitely nice when you were a student, but it did make planning lessons more difficult.

"Today's task is to get to the top of that plascrete wall." She pointed at the tall edifice behind her. "Whichever team makes it to the top first - without use of the Force or other powers - will get ice cream. Or rather, gift cards to the ice cream shop, because I didn't want it melting first. However, before you get there, you each must complete a task."

A fair distance in front of the wall were two plinths with buttons on them. "One person from each team will step up to one of these, and you'll each press a button. If you both press green, you'll both continue on as you were. If you press red and your opponent presses green, you will get a grappling hook and your opponent will get doused in lubricant. However if you both press red, you both get doused in lubricant. So you must decide - how badly do you want to try to win, and how much can you trust somebody on the other team?"

She really wished she had popcorn for this.

"Good afternoon," Lana greeted them all. Class was meeting in the Danger Shop, for Reasons. She was content and confident in front of the class. Had she slept all week? Nope! But that was what the Force was for, right? She was dressed in low black boots, a stylish but sensible grey suit, and a dark green blouse. Never let it be said that all Sith were fashion disasters.

"Welcome to the last class of the week, where you're probably all sick of introductions but we're doing them anyway, because I either don't know you or I haven't seen you in almost thirty years. My name is Lana Beniko. I went to school here last year apparently, but it's been a lot longer for me back home. Which is another galaxy, for those of you who don't know.

"I've been spending a lot of time there wrangling, coercing, and occasionally violently persuading people to work together, so I thought I'd bring some of my expertise here. And perhaps learn more from some of you, as well."

She looked around the room and nodded at them all. "Right. So, give us your name and something interesting about yourself."

"Last class," Jack called cheerfully, "Everyone's had a turn being captain but Owen. Which means by process of elimination, he's up. You've also walked past, pushed out of the way, jumped over, removed from existence, and turned into Chocobos the confidence course. I'm curious what you little s.. scamps.. will come up with this week. And lemme say I'm proud of you for the creative way you've worked together to avoid something none of you seem to want to do."

She shrugged, "My original plan for the day was an escape room but since the island seems hellbent on turning the whole d..arn place into one giant escape room every friggin' week, we're gonna do something else." A nod toward the very large stack of boards. "This is an Earth game called 'Jenga'. The goal is to remove boards from the stack without having the stack collapse." Jack gave the entire class a raised eyebrow look. "Without using any powers or other abilities. Just your very own hands - the ones that grow attached to your arms. If you have hands in other places, those are out too."

She eyed the tower, "There's a twist. Once you've touched a board, that's the one you have to pull. On each of the boards is a dare. You won't be able to read it until you pull the board. If you're unable or unwilling to perform the dare, your captain is responsible for either performing the dare himself or getting the board back into the stack without knocking it over or collapsing it. If there's an item to go with the dare, it'll appear when you read the dare."

Another shrug, "If you have questions, ask."

In the Danger Shop, Jack looked at the items and pictures on the holo of her desk, a little bemused at them. It was kind of adorable. Norman had brought in an actual burger. He could have taken a picture of the sign at Luke's but.. no, that was an actual burger right there on her desk next to a dandelion. She picked the two-day-old cold burger up and took a bite. Huh. Kind of like McDonald's for mealyness but with more flavor. Still bland. Meh. Calories were calories. She crunched on through the stale bun unbothered.

"So I see you guys did great with the scavenger hunt," she said around a mouthful, "After you finish the confidence course, today's goal is Two Truths and a Lie. With a twist. You'll still choose a captain. Instead of playing this one on one, you're going to round robin the f.. game. Each will take a turn telling two truths and one lie about themselves. The group as a whole has to decide which is the lie and turn it in to the team captain. Captain will keep track. Once everyone's gone, you'll tell whether or not your lie was discovered."

She nodded at the whiteboard on one wall. Then she nodded at the confidence course. "Have at."

The room was set up with the confidence course down the middle.

On one of the other walls was a projected list:

DANDELION
NERF
GRAVE DIRT
NATTO
JOYSTICK
TRAIN

"Welcome back. Your team captains so far have been Lana, Prompto, and Norman. You've walked past the confidence course, thrown it aside, and gone over it. Time for a new captain and a new way to do the course.

Today's exercise might take more than today. You have until next class to complete it because it will take you outside this room. It's a scavenger hunt with a twist. The rules:

If you know what the word is, you aren't allowed to be the person who retrieves the item. Nor are you allowed to lead others to the item or tell them where to find it or what it is. You are only allowed to answer yes or no questions about it and you may only answer with yes or no. Internet searches are not allowed.

The team captain is responsible for collecting all the items - and it can be the actual item or a photo representation of the item as long as you first went out and found the item first.

Happy hunting."

Notice goes out to the students:

"Class is canceled today. In the United States, where you currently [BEEP] are, it is Memorial Day. It is a day of remembrance for the military members who died in service. If anyone needs me, text. I'll be at Arlington Cemetery."

And god help any feral ghouls, supermutants, giant radscorpions, or anything else that tried to get in her and Kaidan's way today of all days.

Getting to the school had been an adventure. Jack had slung her boots over her shoulder, rolled up her cargo pants, and stomped through the water. Gondoliers had tried to offer help. One of them got too close and made the mistake of touching her arm and Jack had punched him right out of his own boat. What's the saying? Those that can't do, teach? Right.

She made it to the Danger Shop and got it set up. Once again with the confidence course down the middle. One of the side walls had been covered with paper. There was a pile of drawing material - everything from chalk and charcoal to scented markers - in front of it.

Down one side was a list:
Coatimundi
Giraffe
Alpaca

As the students filed in, Jack began. "Welcome back. So far we've had Lana and Prompto as captains so they're off the list, and you've bypassed the course and thrown it out of the way, so bypassing or destroying the course are also off the list. Good job last week getting your team to kick video game ass, Prompto.

Once your team has figured out the confidence course and all members are accounted for, the next task is drawing the animals on the list. The captain will be the person to draw. However, what the captain draws is what you tell the captain to draw. You may not use devices to look up the animals. You may consult among yourselves. Every member of the team must participate in describing every animal.

There's also a discussion point when you're done: What have you learned about your teammates so far? How will what you've learned help you in the next few classes?"

She waved an idle hand at the confidence course. "Have at."

Class is in the Danger Shop again. Once again, the confidence course is down the center. Tires, hoops, walls, ropes, mud pit, etc.

One whole wall has been set up as a display. Multiple console controllers are in front of it, scattered among beanbags. There's sodas and snacks available over there, also.

At the top of the display, a whole host of pixellated Reapers marched through Dark Space.

At the bottom were a whole host of pixellated warships. One color per controller.

"So last week," Jack began as the students filed in, "Lana volunteered to be team captain and you avoided the confidence course altogether at Norman's suggestion. That was clever and it was some good thinking outside the box. This week, Lana's off the table for captain because she's had a turn, and 'go around it' is also off the table for a solution. Someone else will take a turn being in charge and getting the group through it. If you get the impression that I don't care how you do it, that'd be the correct impression to have: I do not care how you do it, just that you figure it out and do it as a group."

"You'll notice the game set up." Jack gestured toward it. She turned it on for the demo and the Reapers began spawning and marching toward the bottom very quickly. The spaceships took flight and began working together to blast them out of the sky. No one ship was strong enough to take on one Reaper. The demo was rigged so the Reapers won by getting all the way to the bottom, destroying all the ships along the way.

"Today, you run the confidence course and then you get to work the game. Object's simple: Don't let the Reapers land. Problem is, you don't get to start playing until every member of your team has completed the confidence course. The game starts when you start. They'll move slower than they did in the demo but they'll still be moving. If you take too long to do the course, you'll be at a serious disadvantage - if not outright lose - the game," she commented.

Hauling one of the beanbags over to the side, she plopped down and raised a stopwatch. Clicking the clicky thing, she said, "And.. go."

"Good morning. Welcome to Working Together: How Not To Be An A-Hole," Jack said as the class filed in. "Welcome to the Danger Shop. For any of you who might not have been here before, it's a simulation room. For our first day of class, we're going to do introductions because that's part of not being a jerk when you're in a new environment with a new group, and then you're going to figure out the confidence course."

Down the center of the room lies what might generously be called an obstacle course. It held standard things like staggered tires to run through, wires to crawl under, ropes with no knots to climb, a wall to get over, a mud pit to swing across - but also things right out of video games. Gold coins hanging in the air, a sphere of perfect darkness - the inside of which was not viewable because: perfect darkness, riveted boxes with question marks on them, banana peels randomly appearing and zipping across areas of the obstacle course before disappearing.

"Some of you might have seen or done a thing like this before. Usually it's a competition. This ain't. You don't get graded individually. Clock starts, clock don't end until every member of this class gets from one side of the room to the other. Which means class don't end until every member of this class gets from one side of the room to the other. You'll be choosing a team captain for the day but that's because most groups don't work by committee. I expect the captain to listen to the ideas of the others and make the ultimate decisions on how you cross, but participation in this is mandatory. No lurkers, got me?" Jack looked at all of the class.

"So - start with introductions. I'm Jack, I'm your teacher. I don't care what it says on your roster, I'm not 'Ms. Zero' or 'Miss Jack' - it's just Jack. Your TA is Peebee. We're here if you have questions."
