Lorelai is sitting on top of her desk again when the students enter.

"Okay gang, this is our last class and tonight your final projects are due."

[ooc: here's how I'm grading... if everyone in your group comments that you turned in something, you all get Bs. if you actually *did* some type of work, you all get As. I realize there's way too much other stuff going on to expect you to do extra work.]
[identity profile] msgilmoredanes.livejournal.com
Lorelai sits on her desk, swinging her legs back and forth and eating an apple.

"Okay, gang," she says, once everyone has arrived. "Final projects. We need to figure something out. Obviously you're going to work with your business partner. I'm thinking of a multi-media advertising plan, taking into account everything you've learned about budgets and business plans, but I'm open for suggestions."

[ooc: the mun is totally clueless for a project for this class... but I need something to grade you all on... so suggestions please!]
[identity profile] msgilmoredanes.livejournal.com
Okay gang, tonight I want you to work with your partner and come up with an advertising plan for your business.

Veronica, since Vala dropped the class, you can work with another group.

If you need any help, I'll be here.

[ooc: i'd like to see some interaction - there isn't any class next week and i'm pretty easy - but this should be fun]
[identity profile] msgilmoredanes.livejournal.com
All right kids, tonight we're going to continue our lesson on Advertising.

Lecture Notes )

[ooc: use the pretty comments please]
[identity profile] msgilmoredanes.livejournal.com
Okay gang - sorry about cancelling at the last minute last week. I had a family emergency come up.

First of all, I'd like to introduce you to Piper Halliwell [livejournal.com profile] cookinggeek, my new TA. In the future if I have to cancel class, Piper will have copies of my lesson plans and be able to collect homework, give assignments, etc.

Second - Final Roster for Starting a Small Business

[livejournal.com profile] cookinggeek & [livejournal.com profile] the4thsister
[livejournal.com profile] allie_cameron & [livejournal.com profile] lisacuddy
[livejournal.com profile] 12parseckessel & [livejournal.com profile] kawalsky
[livejournal.com profile] iwasawesome & [livejournal.com profile] not_an_ex_demon
[livejournal.com profile] veronicamars1

[livejournal.com profile] taylorjustin & [livejournal.com profile] kinneybrian have been kicked out of class for non-attendance.

[livejournal.com profile] aka_vala has dropped the class, leaving Veronica without a partner. See me after class and we'll figure out how to handle this.

Also - [livejournal.com profile] iwasawesome and [livejournal.com profile] the4thsister will get detention if they don't show up for class this week.

Third - We're going to start our section on advertising tonight.

Lecture Notes )

[ooc: pretty comments - yay!]
[identity profile] msgilmoredanes.livejournal.com
Lorelai is getting ready for class when her cell phone indicates that she has a voicemail waiting.

After listening to the message, she tapes a sign on the door that says Class Cancelled, and heads to the dorm.
[identity profile] msgilmoredanes.livejournal.com
No lecture tonight guys. I have some last minute party plans to make for Rory's surprise party tomorrow. I hope many of you will be attending.

Please turn in your homework from last week (your budgets) and we'll go over them next class.

[ooc: sorry for the late post, mun had family bonding tonight over Pizza & Gross Pointe Blank, ironically enough]
[identity profile] msgilmoredanes.livejournal.com
Hey gang!

Okay, first things first. I need you all to make sure you sign the attendance sheet and then I need each pair to let me know the name of their business.

:after that's all taken care of:

Did everyone read the handouts on budgets from last week? [ooc: no, I didn't have the link up last week - sorry!]

Now, the most important thing to know about budgets is that budgeting prepares for the future and foresees problems before they occur. However, you need to keep in mind that you won't always be able to forsee a problem.

For example, last week at my inn? Sookie, our chef, accidentally caught the stove on fire. The wall behind the stove was damaged. There was no way to predict that would happen. But, we were prepared because we had insurance coverage.

There are a lot of things you need to include in a budget, some that you may not think of right away. Your homework for next week is to work with your partner on a basic budget for your business.

[ooc: I'm going to make "pretty comment threads" like some of the other profs have been doing]
[identity profile] msgilmoredanes.livejournal.com
[ooc: sorry for the late post, mun hit happy hour tonight!]

Okay gang... here's the current roster for the class and what type of business you're doing.

Current Roster )

Tonight's in class project is to come up with a name for your business. Now remember, your name is the first impression a customer is going to get of your company and can be a very important branding/marketing tool.

For example, the Inn that I own is called the Dragonfly Inn. We use the image of a dragonfly in our logo and on many products we sell.

I'd like you to take these papers home and read them for next week's class. They're about different ways of getting financing for a business. We're going to start dealing with budgets next week.

Make sure you sign the attendance sheet.
[identity profile] msgilmoredanes.livejournal.com
So, last week I asked you to let me know what you and your partner were planning to do for your projects. So far, only two of the six pairs gave me answers. I need answers from the rest of you tonight.

Next week, we start working on our projects.

[livejournal.com profile] taylorjustin and [livejournal.com profile] kinneybrian - advertising business
[livejournal.com profile] cookinggeek and [livejournal.com profile] the4thsister - catering company
[livejournal.com profile] aka_vala and [livejournal.com profile] veronicamars1
[livejournal.com profile] allie_cameron and [livejournal.com profile] lisacuddy
[livejournal.com profile] 12parseckessel and [livejournal.com profile] rygelxvi
[livejournal.com profile] iwasawesome and [livejournal.com profile] not_an_ex_demon

Any pair that doesn't give me an answer tonight is out of the class.

ETA: In addition, I am looking for a teaching assistant. Comment here or leave a message on my voicemail if you're interested.

[ooc: tonight is defined as before next thursday when class meets again]
[identity profile] msgilmoredanes.livejournal.com
Okay class - here goes.

Last week I told you to pick a partner and decide on a business. We've had a few more students join the class.

This week, we're going to introduce ourselves and you're going to tell me what kind of business you and your partner are going to create for class.

By the way - this class is strictly pass/fail. If you show up and do the work, you pass. If you miss classes or don't do the work, you fail. And tje decision is going to be made based on your team - not on you as an individual. So if you picked a slacker partner, you better be prepared to pick up the slack.

Current Roster )

For those of you who don't know me - I'm Lorelai Gilmore-Danes. I own the Dragonfly Inn in Stars Hollow, CT with my best friend Sookie. We may take a field trip to the inn as part of this class, assuming I can get permission from [livejournal.com profile] principalconnor to take you off school grounds.

I started working at an inn as a maid when I was 17. I worked my way up the ladder, met Sookie (who's a chef) and we decided to buy our own inn. We've only been open for about six months, but things are going really well so far, which is amazing considering the whole Kirk-running-naked-through-the-inn at the Grand Opening and Sookie's clumsiness almost setting fire to the kitchen twice.

Anyway... please, introduce yourselves and tell me what kind of business you plan to create.

[OOC: 1. All Lorelai's classes are slow played because the mun is too busy for more (and is playing two other characters).
2. For those of you who aren't familiar with Gilmore Girls, Lor is a bit of a flake at times and tends to go off on tangents. She's also a pop culture guru.
3. Having Veronica & Lilly in this class is going to be OH SO AMUSING since they haven't run across each other as of yet.]
[identity profile] msgilmoredanes.livejournal.com
All right folks.

At this point, there are six of you in the class and you'll be working in pairs. I may allow one more pair to join the class.

First week assignment is to pair up and decide what kind of mock business you want to start.

I know that [livejournal.com profile] kinneybrian and [livejournal.com profile] taylorjustin said they want to work together.

[livejournal.com profile] the4thsister mentioned possibly working with [livejournal.com profile] cookinggeek because they live together - are you two going to do that?

That would leave [livejournal.com profile] aka_vala and [livejournal.com profile] veronicamars1 as partners.

I'll work on the assumption that this is going to be the case and you let me know if anything changes. You can have this class time to decide what type of business you want to run (restaurant, inn, PR firm, factory, whatever) and figure out a name. Remember that your name says a lot about you and sometimes a name can make or break you.

Names can also have brand recognition - My inn, for example, is called The Dragonfly Inn - and, consequently, we use a dragonfly logo on as much as possible. Keep these things in mind when deciding on a name.

Next week, we'll talk about getting start up capital for your business.
