Hey, both teachers were here this week for class! And it wasn't even a movie day. Be proud of them, students. Goody and Nathan were almost approaching 'functional human' status, now. Maybe someday.

They lived in perpetual hope.

"My apologies for missing last week," Nathan said, nodding to the class at large. "I was... detained, I suppose is the proper word, by a group of gremlins having a slumber party in my living room." And there was no way in hell he was going out a window just to get to class. "I hope whatever film Mr. Robicheaux chose to show you was educational."

Or at least entertaining. That was about the best they could hope for in this day and age.

This week, Appomattox. )

"Blasters are kind of like your guns, but better," Atton said. He held up one of his own, custom-made blasters. "They're lighter and the recoil isn't half as bad, just to start with. The same safety rules still hold: don't point them at anything you don't want to shoot and don't scratch your head with them no matter how old-school your animation cycles are, always check if they're charged or not, and keep your stance firm."

He gestured at the gun range behind him.

"Blaster shots won't go on almost forever like bullets do, but they do leave scorch marks," he said. "So I set up some panneling for the occasion. If you use them again in the future, try not to destroy the furniture of anybody you like."

Beat.

"That's it. Go."

Tip had stayed up too late all weekend. Not even for any really good reason, just because she kept getting caught up in reading. Something she explained to the books she was reshelving after the fifth time she broke into a yawn while trying to work.

Which was probably why the books responded by whistling little papery lullabies and soothing white noise instead of playing pranks and launching into the 1812 Overture and launching themselves across the library.

It wasn't doing a great job of keeping her awake, but, hey, at least the books seemed to like her?
