Amaya was actually looking forward to coming into class today, not only because they would be working on one of her favorite projects this week, but it also meant getting to take a break from mushy holiday orders and that was very welcome right now. If it weren't for that siren call of the shiny gold coin that she loved so much, she'd probably try to find ways to stick around well after class, too.

Or find some other excuse not to return to the shop, anyway. A-hem.

But for now! Class! And an exciting one at that, because....

"It's mini-foundry day, everyone!" she announced when everyone had gathered around. "One of my staple lessons for every shop class, mini-foundry day is the day we move from talking about the equipment we use in this class to actually making some equipment that we'll use in this class! This is a handy little project to build something that'll help us melt metal for other projects, which is always a good time when we get there. Now, the project itself is pretty involved, though, so let's just get right into it.

Look, making it to February for my first copypasta class is pretty good, okay?! )

"And that's pretty much it! Good work today! If you'd like, I've got some metal spray paint in a few different colors if you want to give your buckets a little personal touch before you leave; we can leave them to dry so they're good and ready the next time we get the chance to use them. Any questions before we go?"

"You know what, guys?" Summer asked at the start of the class, with that grin on her face that you should be pretty used to by now. "You wanna know what I want to talk about this week? Meat."

Oh, this should go well.

Stark sighed, looked upward for a moment, and then sighed again as he looked back at Summer. “I was hoping this day wouldn't come.” No, he didn’t actually look at all upset about it. The protests were mostly just for show at this point.

"Now, there's a lot to be said about mixing a little savory with your sweet," Summer continued, "and I'm sure some people would argue that, when you start adding meat to your cupcakes, where's the line before they cross over into being muffins? That could actually be an interesting point of discussion, so if you've got opinions on it, I'd love to hear 'em, but, if you ask me, I think it all comes down to the frosting."

“Cupcakes need frosting,” Stark agreed. “And muffins don't have any. Of course, cupcakes are meant to be sweet and not meaty.” Alas, it was too late to get out of the meat now.

"And I actually went a little overboard in making examples to inspire you guys, too," Summer admitted, almost a little sheepishly, but, come on, when would she ever feel embarrassed about doing more weird foods to foist on people? "But I've got one that has bacon, two variations of chicken cupcakes, and, of course, meatloaf."

“Meatloaf and cupcake are two words that do not go together,” Stark said plaintively. “So are chicken and cupcake.”

"Well, I'm glad the bacon, at least, is acceptable!" Summer beamed happily. "What other meats might be acceptable? Let's find out!"

“Bacon is special,” Stark said. “It can go with anything.” He was almost certainly going to regret having said that, someday.

Maybe he just ought to be grateful Summer hadn't found anything with brains in it or something equally horrifying.

"An airplane is a complicated machine," Steve began, leaning against one of the desks at the front of the classroom, "and a lot of things have to be working together in order for it to stay in the air."

"And, usually, duct tape isn't involved in it," Tony added, wincing a little. "It is essentially a metal tube, hurtling through the air using physics."

Was that meant to inspire people to not be afraid of flight, Anthony?

"With the engines attached to wings and not, say, your feet," Steve said with a teasing grin at Tony.

"There's nothing wrong with my flying!" The many concussions as he learned begged to differ.

Steve let out a non-committal hum in reply. "Most engineers, not as blessed as Tony with an unlimited development budget, have stuck to non-moving wings for their airplanes."

"But, let's pretend you do have an unlimited budget," Tony said, passing out some papers on the science behind flight.. "Let's design an airplane that is both aesthetically pleasing and doesn't fall out of the sky."

"Or have its doors pop off mid-flight," Steve added helpfully. Boeing.

The walls of Trebor's pack-and-play had gotten taller again, the light glinting off the force-field top from where it was now more visible behind her desk. Despite not being Pre-Born, Trebor had rapidly departed the 'potato' stage of infant, and was rapidly becoming far more mobile.

"Good morning. Today, we work with chapter four, often known as 'Tactical Dispositions'," Ghanima said, smiling at the class as she went up to the wipe board. "Sun Tzu said: 'The good fighters of old first put themselves beyond the possibility of defeat, and then waited for an opportunity of defeating the enemy.'"

She picked up the marker and began to write. "First, he claimed that 'to secure ourselves against defeat lies in our own hands, but the opportunity of defeating the enemy is provided by the enemy himself.' This is excellent advice, as it reminds us that the enemy is never perfect, and that everyone, ourselves included, has a weakness. 'Thus the good fighter is able to secure himself against defeat, but cannot make certain of defeating the enemy.'"

"'Security against defeat implies defensive tactics; ability to defeat the enemy means taking the offensive,'" she recited, writing quickly. "'Standing on the defensive indicates insufficient strength; attacking, a superabundance of strength.'"

"So, how do we reconcile these differences?" she asked, looking at them. "How can you create a plan of attack for anything, not just combat, using Tzu's ideas? Wooing a romantic partner by using almost defensive-only tactics seems doomed to failure, as does using that mindset during a business transaction. We know from our earlier lesson that a prologued engagement benefits no one in the long run, why do you then think Tzu advocates waiting here?" Ghanima set down her marker and turned around to face them fully. "I'd like to discuss this, and try to come up with a non-combat situation where this would be a viable, and indeed desirable, strategy."

"Begin."
