"Hello, everyone," said Amaya, at the front of the shop classroom with a grin, clearly eager to get back to work in what was, outside of the weapons class training field in the danger shop, clearly her best teaching element, "and welcome to Shop Class! Now, I know most of you are already familiar with both me as a teacher and this class in general, but for those of you who don't, my name is Amaya Blackstone, and I'm the blacksmith here in this town. If you ever need any metal work done, be it weapons, cutlery, decor for your home or decor for you head, hair, body and face, then I'm your gal! But we're not here to talk about blacksmithing in this class! Not yet, anyway, we may eventually get around to it, but we'll be talking about building and making stuff and exploring how things work in a much broader scope here. And it's the first week, so we're going to keep it pretty simple today, before we start really digging into some of the more dedicated stuff, but that doesn't mean we don't have a lot of ground to cover!

"Today," she continued, "I'd like to hit three main points: introductions, so we all know who we'll be working with; safety rules and procedures, because safety first, especially since we're not working in the danger shop and only two of you were Muppets; and, finally, our first foray into getting our hands dirty, which will be a simple project that involves putting together not a birdhouse like one might expect, but rather, because this is Fandom, a squirrel house. The main difference is that there's a special little water bottle attachment you put in on the side where you can pour your rum, so when you really need to privacy, you can guarantee it with the squirrel going inside to drink it!"

With that, she clapped her hands together, and looked over the class. "Alright, then! Lots to cover, so let's get started with those introductions. Let's make it short and snappy so we have plenty of time to work, so let's hear your name, experience with building things or shop classes in general, and what you're looking forward to getting out of this class. Let's start with you."

"Hiiiii, everyone!" said Summer, getting class started out with a pleased, eager, and terribly excited grin, because in front of a cooking classroom about to unleash uncertain horrors on unsuspecting (well, no, everyone probably expected it now) students had clearly developed into one of her happy places. "And welcome to In the Cupcake of Good and Evil, a cupcake baking class where we will introduce you to some interesting concepts in cupcake baking and you have the power to decide whether you are going to use that knowledge for good," she gestured toward Stark, "or evil," gesturing to herself.

“She isn’t really evil,” Stark said. “But her food is often evil. Or at least horrifying.” He didn’t sound horrified at all. He sounded very fond.

"Today however," Summer continued, "in the grand tradition of the first week, we're going to be doing introductions, especially since I do see an unfamiliar name on the roster."

You poor, poor soul, who probably had no idea what you were getting yourself into. Stark was sorry for what you were about to experience. He thought Summer probably wasn't at all.

"But....we're doing it cupcake style! Your mission, should you choose to accept it, which you should, because otherwise, you're kind of missing the point, is to make a cupcake that you feel represents you in some way, shape, or form. For example, Stark? You made…."

“Mine,” Stark said, holding up his cupcake with both hands, “is yellow cake with chocolate frosting. That's my favorite sort of cupcake.” He then pulled half of the cake away to reveal the inside of the cupcake. “But it's not just plain yellow cake. It's full of more chocolate, see?” And yes, he had put some sparkly gold star sprinkles in there as well because he thought it was amusing. “And Summer, you…?”

"And I put a shrimp in mine," Summer announced proudly, gesturing toward, yes, a very pink cupcake, with sparkly sprinkles, and a big old pink shrimp stuck right in the very center of it, which she looked at with a great deal of fondness, "because Stark asked me not to."

Which might not seem like much of an introduction, but that really was a good amount of what you needed to know about Summer.

“Of course you did,” Stark said with a shake of his head. “Of course.”

"Now," said Summer, "if you need help with actually baking the cupcake, just let me or Stark know and we'll help you through the process; if you're still feeling a little intimidating baking on Day One, though, we do have some default chocolate, strawberry, and vanilla base-cakes that, like, you can just decorate to suit who you are as a cupcake. And, when time is up, we'll all take turns introducing ourselves and sharing our cupcakes!"

"Welcome to our first class," Steve said with a far-too-awake grin at the students. "This semester we're exploring how art and STEM--science, technology, engineering, mathematics--work together. Or sometimes, how they need to so you don't send things that are both ugly and useless out into the world."

Tony was less awake, but had a coffee as large as his head. Which helped. "A prime example of why it's needed is... this thing here," he said, gesturing at an image of a specific vehicle. Did he have a look of revulsion at it? Yes, yes he did. This was some Justin Hammer design aesthetic.

Steve was giving the image his judgiest, Captain America is Disappointed in You, look. "This is the Tesla Cybertruck," he said. "And it really looks like that. On purpose."

Every part of his artist's heart was insulted, you guys.

"And it's just shoddy design on a purely practical level too!" Tony said, gesturing at it. "How this could ever hit the market is a testament to how lax safety standards are."

You know. Said the guy who tested out a flying suit of armor on himself.

"It has proprietary tires that don't work in the snow," Steve said, nodding.

"So, as our welcome to the class... join us in judging this thing," Tony said with a grin. Because how better to bond as people?

"And offer suggestions on how to improve it," Steve said, "even if it means starting from scratch."

Another semester, another batch of bright and shining students. Ghanima sat on her desk, Trebor in her lap, hiding her smile behind her tea as they filed in; mentally cataloging the familiar faces. As students arrived, the returners would find a familiar scene -- the classroom was set-up a bit differently than most...desks (minus hers) were gone in favor of Ghanima's preferred set-up of rugs, cushions, some divans, and large pillows, in the Fremen manner she much preferred.

The moment the bell rang, her eyes snapped from the door to the people seated around the room. "Good afternoon and welcome," she said in a clear voice that carried effortlessly. "This is the Art of War, and I am Lady Ghanima Atreides. You may address me as Miss Atreides, Lady Ghanima, Miss Ghanima, or some variation thereof. If you are in the wrong class, please feel free to leave at this time. For those of you whom I have had in class before," she smiled suddenly, looking far less severe. "Welcome back."

"The Art of War." Scooping up her two piles of handouts off her desk one-handed as she settled Trebor on her hip, Ghanima began wandering up and down the piles of pillows as she talked, handing them out. "A Chinese military treatise that was written during the 6th century BC by Sun Tzu. Composed of 13 chapters, each of which is devoted to one aspect of warfare, it has long been praised as the definitive work on military strategies and tactics of its time. It is divided into 13 chapters, or P'ien, and the collection is referred to as being one Ch'üan, or chronicle."

"The book is not only popular among military theorists, but also among political leaders and those in business management. The book addresses strategy in a broad fashion, despite the title, touching upon public administration and planning. The text outlines theories of battle but also advocates diplomacy and cultivating relationships with other nations as essential to the health of the state."

"Sun Tzu himself is a bit of a mystery, and historians debate whether or not he was a real historical figure. Which, really, is par for the course with anyone truly interesting." Ghanima smiled at the class brilliantly. "If you're larger than life, they'll never believe you were real."

"For our first lesson," Ghanima moved to the front of the room, picking up her chalk to write quickly;

So it is said that if you know your enemies and know yourself, you will fight without danger in battles.
If you only know yourself, but not your opponent, you may win or may lose.
If you know neither yourself nor your enemy, you will always endanger yourself.

"Know thy enemy, know thyself. We'll cover it more in-depth later, but for today I would like you to go around the room and introduce yourselves. Give us your name, class, and some random fact about yourself. Pay attention to what your classmates have to say, you never know when such information could come in handy."
