Today, Kanan had sent a message to the students, stay in the dorms. He'd come to them. Hopefully nobody had any complaints about a workshop coopting the dorms rec room, because when it came to making his students navigate the fresh hell that was out there just so that he could chat about philosophy?

Ha. Kanan had put messy blaster holes in three splicers just getting from the radio station to here today. There was a long tear in his shirt and blood he was just casually ignoring. It wasn't worth it to expect the students to be out in that. Nope.

"This week's lesson was supposed to be about busybodies who don't take the time to stop and relax," he said, leaning against a wall, arms crossed over his chest, lightsaber actually assembled on his belt. "And if I figured that was at all relevant to what's going on out there, I'd even feel okay with teaching it. But this week we're going to just... have a discussion, I guess. Talk about when to run versus when to fight. Talk to your classmates - pick a buddy to travel with when you go outside. Even if you don't personally think you need someone to watch your back, think of it as having someone else whose back needs watching. How many of you are fighters? How many of you aren't? The wasteland was bad - the animals there were twisted and lethal. But here, the enemy is people. And people can be anywhere."

Kanan shrugged.

"If there are any essentials you need this week and you don't feel safe going outside, message me. I don't mind doing runs for food, weapons, or first aid supplies. I know we've just been coasting through the summer so far, wasteland being an exception for some, but it might be well past time to start treating these bouts of weekly weirdness as actual emergency situations, not just novel new experiences. So, what do you do to prep for an emergency that's already on you?"

Sorry, silly old bear. Maybe class would get back to discussing you next week. Adjusting his lesson to go with the flow that the universe had thrown at the island was in line with Taoism, too.

Hannibal looked calm as the students arrived at Portalocity. It was better than looking grim. "Since once again it would be pointless to stay here and attempt to eat local foods, we're engaging in another field trip. We've discussed some of the economics of food. Today we will gain some practical experience, as we observe and discuss the culture around producing food, rather than preparing it. I haven't made any food this week, but that doesn't mean there won't be anything to eat."

He held up a map to show their destination. "We're not going far; ordinarily we would have driven, but, well." Underwater and all that. And Iceland, not that Hannibal knew that part yet. "We'll be working with an organization called Gather Baltimore."

He rolled up the map and looked at the students. "Local farmers bring their produce to a number of markets around the area; at the end of the day, what they don't sell often gets thrown out. This group takes that food and redistributes it to shelters and societies that feed the hungry. We're going to help them, and I also would like you to speak with the farmers and learn more about how the food is grown and how they make a living.

"Try not to wander too far, please, but do take advantage of the entire market. If you'd like to use this opportunity to purchase some food for yourselves, please do. Or feel free to take advantage of my good nature and my wallet." He had at least one of those. "I plan on stocking up myself, given this week's locale."

He checked his watch. "I expect you all to stay and help for the duration of our class. If you wish to stay longer and avoid the island today, you may. Questions?"

The class was on a field today. Granted, that field was in the Danger Shop because wow were they not holding class outside today.

"In case you haven't noticed yet, it's terrible out there," Aeryn greeted them, lacrosse stick in hand. "We decided on today's topics to give you practice at hitting people with sticks."

They were helpful!

"It's a real game!" Anakin said, sounding far too excited about this. "It's called lacrosse."

It didn't actually involve hitting people on sticks on purpose. Mostly.

"You will put on the appropriate safety gear-" Always a good sign! "-and separate into two teams," Aeryn continued. "Two players will face off to get the ball, using these sticks. You are not allowed to use your hands to touch the ball unless you are the goalie. Your objective is to get the ball in the other team's goal. This also means you can body check another player, or stick check them."

Aka hit with sticks. Not "on purpose."

"Aeryn gets to play with you today," Anakin said helpfully.

She would definitely hit them with sticks.

"Janet, Bobby, Entrapta and Theron, you're in red. Lana, Sidon and Billy, you're in blue and you have me," Aeryn said. Congratulations, Lana, Sidon and Billy: you would not be hit with sticks!

"I will referee," Anakin said.

He might hit all of you with sticks.

In the Danger Shop, Jack looked at the items and pictures on the holo of her desk, a little bemused at them. It was kind of adorable. Norman had brought in an actual burger. He could have taken a picture of the sign at Luke's but.. no, that was an actual burger right there on her desk next to a dandelion. She picked the two-day-old cold burger up and took a bite. Huh. Kind of like McDonald's for mealyness but with more flavor. Still bland. Meh. Calories were calories. She crunched on through the stale bun unbothered.

"So I see you guys did great with the scavenger hunt," she said around a mouthful, "After you finish the confidence course, today's goal is Two Truths and a Lie. With a twist. You'll still choose a captain. Instead of playing this one on one, you're going to round robin the f.. game. Each will take a turn telling two truths and one lie about themselves. The group as a whole has to decide which is the lie and turn it in to the team captain. Captain will keep track. Once everyone's gone, you'll tell whether or not your lie was discovered."

She nodded at the whiteboard on one wall. Then she nodded at the confidence course. "Have at."

[OCD is up. Please wait for Prompto to ping in for the confidence course thread.]
