"Tomorrow's Halloween," Rosa informed the class by way of greeting from where she was perched on the top of the desk at the front of the classroom, "which means a lot of dumb costumes, too much candy, and, since it's on a Wednesday, maybe slightly less of a need for the class we did on hangovers. Slightly. But for the past five years, Halloween has also sort of meant something else back at my usual precinct, and that's a Heist. Now, since it's obviously clear I'm probably not going to get to participate in this year's," not that she cared or was a little bitter about it, or anything, "I'm living vicariously through you guys by making you do one. That's what all these last few lessons have been about: stealth, picking locks, distractions. You'll probably need them all if you have any intention of winning.

"The goal?" Rosa hopped off the desk, started pacing like a captain giving orders to her troops befre sending them out into battle. "A hatchet. I've planted a hatchet somewhere in one of the offices of your teachers. I'm not telling you where; I'm not giving you hints. The other teachers know you'll be riffling through their crap this week and some of them have taken steps to ensure that it's not too easy for you."

The fact that so many other teachers were willing to sacrifice their office for a whole week for some dumb game said an awful lot about just how much those offices got regular use, she felt.

"Of course, once the hatchet is found, that's no guarantee that it might not then be taken from you by one of your fellow students. It doesn't end when the hatchet is found; It starts as soon as I dismiss you from this class, and it ends next week, in this classroom, with whoever has it in her possession at that time. Fair warning, there is only one true hatchet; you'll know it when you see it, and a few decoys.

"And that's all you get." Rosa shrugged her shoulders. "No lesson today, just get started on planning. Ask me questions if you want before you go, but there's no guarantee I'll have an answer for you. You're on your own. Or not, if you decide to team up, but just remember, if you do, there still can only be one winner."

She folded her arms in front of her and looked at them with a faint note of expectation. "So, any one got questions?"

Today, there were full-sized pumpkins at everybody's work station. "Happy Almost-Halloween!" Karla cheered as class came in, dressed in a traditional witch's costume because she thought she was hilarious. "Today, we've got two lessons instead of the usual one."

Bold move, considering she had yet to successfully teach one lesson that wasn't just a movie, but she liked to dream big.

"Pumpkin carving is a a great way to work on your knife skills and can lead to a delicious treat," she explained, picking up one of the several knives she had laying out on the desk. "Roasted pumpkin seeds are easy enough that any idiot can make them!" Let's see if that applied to your teacher, kids.

"So, first thing you wanna do is cut open the top of your pumpkin and scoop out all the mushy, stringy, seedy bits. You can use your hands first, cause it's fun and feels gross, but use a spoon against the walls to make sure you scraped all the wet gunk away. They'll last longer that way." Karla considered it and added, "Or not, since Halloween's tomorrow and who cares after that?"

So, you know, you do you, kids.

"Then separate the seeds from the mushy stuff, and chuck 'em into a colander to rinse. While they're rinsing, oil up a cookie sheet--" Karla sprayed a cookie sheet with Pam and tried not to choke as some of it splashed back on her "--and then shake 'em dry. Don't use a paper towel, they stick and then you have to spend more time picking them off the stupid thing." Voice of experience, here. "Lay them on a single layer on the cookie sheet, then roast them at 300 degrees to dry them out."

Karla put the cookie sheet into the oven and then turned back to the class. "Now you've got thirty minutes to kill. Take that time to carve up your pumpkin! There are all sorts of tools and knives at your stations, so feel free to carve them however you want. Just be careful not to cut yourself. Always cut away from yourself, and please be mindful of your fingers?"

She'd heal anyone who hurt themselves, but she'd also scold and sigh. "Once your pumpkin seeds are dried, transfer them to a bowl with a little bit of olive oil, salt, and some spices. Then they go back into the oven for another 20ish minutes, until they're golden brown. And voila! Toasted pumpkin seeds!"

This might go well after all!

“Today we're going to tackle the ethics of breaking up with someone,” Anakin began.

"If there's attempted murder involved, you've probably done it wrong." You'd know, Aphra.

And so would Anakin. Cough. These were definitely the worst people this side of Deadpool to advise you on anything, kids.

"You're definitely doing it wrong. But apparently running off to another planet and never calling back is also wrong?"

Who knew!

"Effective though." Aphra, no! "But then they get really upset if you pretend you didn't do that next time you want to hook up."

"Or sometimes you aren't supposed to be dating at all due to...religious reasons...and so you aren't supposed to have break-ups or hook-ups at all," Anakin said.

They were the least useful people ever to teach you about this.

"Oh, yeah, then you usually get the head of some order after you too for being a 'corrupting influence'." The actual worst, and Aphra hadn't even had her worst break-up yet.

"So...how would you approach a breakup?" Anakin asked the students.

Please, please tell them, kids. Because they clearly don't know.

At all.
