Yeah, a few steps onto the island and Karla had decided to readjust her lesson plan for the day. The pollen was still going strong and odds that her students would be able to pay attention to much else was slim. A pity the Danger Shop didn't filter it out of the air somehow, but if that was a setting, Karla had no idea how to find it.

Coming in the Danger Shop today, the students would find themselves in a large field of familiar, if vastly oversized, flowers, though Karla had thoughtfully programmed the day to be sunny and warm, with the occasional breeze. To the side was a rack of moddable weapons and a few gardening implements. "Hello," she said when her class arrived, foregoing her usual 'kiss kiss' for obvious reasons. "Let me start by saying this is one of the things that doesn't usually follow you off the island. So there's that small benefit, at least. I'm going to try to make this lecture fast--but topical!--because I know how your attention span get get, especially a week into this."

She'd barely been on the island ten minutes and she was already finding it hard to look at her students, rather than the winged guy sitting on a blanket and making silly noises at a baby.

Herbal abortifacients )

That conversation over with, Karla clapped her hands. "I'm certain I've used up all of the attention span you have, so the rest of the period is yours. There's an entire field of the flowers that are playing havoc on most of us. Feel free to take out any frustrations you may have--for whatever reason--on them. Kick, hit, stab, rake, pick, tear, stomp, destroy...whatever will make you feel better. And whatever else you do once you leave this classroom, please remember to be safe."

[Like the cut says, today's lesson includes a brief talk of plant-based abortifacients. I've tried to keep it as low-impact as possible, but if you would prefer not to read such content, click here to skip it all together.]

If Cosette had thought about it a little more, she might have realized that there was probably an explanation for how a significant number of the books in the returns bin might be categorized very generally as romance novels. There were also multiple copies of the Kama Sutra, and various . . . educational . . . books, and as much as Cosette would like to keep herself busy with work today this really wasn't helping.

Still, she was determined to do her job, but this just meant she was going to take a lot longer than usual about it.

She was . . . just leafing through all of the books before she reshelved them to make sure they weren't damaged or anything. Yes. That was it.

To say Atton wasn't in the mood to teach would be a colossal understatement, but unfortunately, it wasn't the kind of thing he could bail on.

So when they arrived in the Danger Shop, it would be to a large simulation of a beach front. Clear sky, nothing but sand and sea for miles... except for the tables sitting in front of Atton. One had thick black jumpsuits laid out over it. The other had...

"Water balloons," Atton said. "Okay, this is stretching the class a little, but let's face it, none of you are going to be paying attention anyway. Put on the jumpsuit over your clothes so we don't get any shenanigans with clinging t-shirts--" because he knew you people. He knew you people. "--Then grab some water balloons. Then, you can engage in mortal water balloon combat with each other."

Beat.

"That's it. Go!"

Class was back in Jones' office today. No field trips scheduled. No interruptions from Dr. Disaster.

Just muffins, coffee and tea on her desk.

"Today should be short. I wish to hear on your progress of your research project. If you have anything tangible to show I would also happy to review it with you."

Some teachers try to avoid the ridiculousness of this particular week. Josh, on the other hand, taught BS. Time to embrace the theme!

"Your time has come," Josh said. "This is a week on Fandom where almost any pickup line you try on someone will work. Today your job is to pair up and do your absolute worst...and see if it works."

He arched an eyebrow. "Please, please don't make out in this classroom. I don't need to see that."
