"I had intended to teach you all to make cheesecake this week, but circumstances conspired against us," Steve said ruefully. "So instead, I've brought cheesecake which I made at home for you all to enjoy, and the recipe, which you'll have to try on your own time. Instead we'll be making bread )

One more class for the week, and then finals, and another school year done; in between that and how eventful every trip home had been Gabrielle was struck by the need to write about time and the passage thereof. Or attempt to, at the very least.

"Like sand through -- no, that's not right," she might be heard to mutter, half-muffled through the quill she was chewing on. "As fleeting as -- no, no, no . . ."

Time might pass very quickly for her while she tried to find the right words. Or, it was entirely possible, that process might make the day pass very slowly indeed.

Only time would tell. Ahem.

Fraser was waiting in the Danger Shop for the class to arrive. Once again, there was cold weather gear piled on some tables along with what looked to be rappelling gear. Today's activity was probably going to be cold and high.

"Welcome back," he greeted, smiling. "Today's our second to the last class and we're going to be doing something somewhat challenging. Ice climbing. Ice climbing is the activity of ascending inclined ice formations. Ice climbing usually refers to the roped and protected climbing of features such as icefalls, frozen waterfalls, and cliffs and rock slabs covered with ice refrozen from flows of water. There are several techniques to ice climbing: rope systems, tying in, belaying, leading, abseiling and lowering."

With that said, Fraser walked over to the pile of rappelling gear and proceeded to demonstrate slowly how to put the equipment on before going through rope systems, tying in, belaying, leading, abseiling, and lowering.

"We also want to make sure to protect the ice we're climbing on," he said, still in the rappelling gear. "The most common way to do that is to use ice screws, which we have. Ice screws are hollow tubes with sharp teeth on the front end, a hanger eye at the back to clip into, and threading around the tube. They are screwed into the ice and can provide very strong protection in solid ice."

Fraser then proceeded to show them how to use an ice screw to the be the safest while on the ice. After all of that, he hit a few buttons and the simulation came to life showing a completely iced over waterfall. "We're going to be climbing that today. Please be careful, go at your own pace and wear the safety gear. That is not optional, that is mandatory. Enjoy."

"This will be your last class before the finals," Kerrigan said, radiating apathy. "I'm not going to ask you to write essays or come up with group projects or presentations. Study. Next week, there's a test."

And her last chance to get some useful ideas out of these kids before she took off for Koprulu once again.

"These past few months, we've been discussing the nature and the science of psionics. Multiversally, it is not a field that can be easily cordoned off. You have all seen things, done things that don't fall within the scope of what I've taught you in these classes. So the question I pose to you today to consider is 'what are psionics, and what can we do with them?'. That is, after all, the central question of this course."

Unless you asked Kerrigan honestly, in which case the central question was 'how can my students help me devour the galaxy and then possibly the multiverse', but hush.

"It's the mind in communication with the outside world," she said, "It is a terrifying weapon. It is who some of us are. It is a tool. It is a science. It is a magic. It is something in ourselves that allows us to reach out and alter the world around us, observe more closely, make fuller use of the potential input and output. It can burn worlds and heal minds. It is power, and if you don't comprehend that yet, it's about time that you do."

Her eyes flicked over the class. "Some of you will go on to do great things with this power," she said, "Some of you won't. Some of you don't have it. But the possibilities are endless - and they start with how you define the field, and what you plan to do. I suggest not standing by idly, children."

The smile on her face was not particularly nice.

"Since next week's examination will be asking you a series of questions based on ethical dilemmas," Anakin began, leaning against his desk and holding a piece of paper in his hand, "I thought I'd get you thinking in that direction today." He began to read, having absolutely no mercy for student who had been standing in upside-down rain mere hours before:

"Phoebe is a senior and president of the student body. Lately she is becoming more and more overwhelmed by her course load, college applications and repeated invasions of the island over the past few weekends."

Anakin might have edited the example slightly.

"She has been sick for the past month and has fallen behind in many of her classes. Her application to Brown University and her advanced-level art history paper are both due on Monday. It’s Sunday now. Phoebe makes a tough decision and plagiarizes the entire section on Impressionism on her paper, finishes her application and goes to bed. On Monday, Phoebe turns in her paper.

"By lunchtime, Phoebe’s art history teacher had asked to see her. He quickly realized the fact that a large portion of her paper was plagiarized and confronts her about it. Phoebe bursts into tears and explains to him about all the pressures of being sick, taking five challenging classes, playing three varsity sports, her work on the reserves, being president of the student body, and being an animal for a week and a half. Brown is her number one choice for college and she felt she had to make a choice.

"Phoebe’s teacher turns her in to the school honor council. She is very remorseful and volunteers to give a speech to the student body apologizing for what she has done. She also begs the honor council not to write to the colleges that she has applied to, as she has worked so hard throughout her high school career and is applying to the most competitive colleges and universities.

"Assuming we had such a thing here, what should the honor council do?"

"Since next week is final exams, I thought we could use today's class as a review session," Summer explained.

"Do you have any questions about anything we've covered? I'd be more than happy to field questions on anything we've studied up to now. Feel to look over your notes, study in groups or alone," she continued. "I was also wondering if there were any myths or legends you knew of, that you wish we'd talked about throughout the course?"

It would be a help to her, should she want to teach this class again at some point.

"We'll be meeting in our regular classroom next week. Again, if you have any questions, feel free to ask."
