The class was send handwavey messages to meet at the Danger Shop. When they got there, Karla and Chloe were still listening to a message on Karla's phone. “I really don’t think that's a word,” Karla hissed. Chloe shook her head. “I'm pretty sure that Ive never heard of something like that,” she whispered back. “Maybe he drank something unexpected.”

“Well, it is--time for class; hi!” Karla said brightly, glancing up as people started arriving. “So, Reno couldn't be here today. We just got this message from him...err, something about a ninja-ferret and a duck and his suits needing to be drycleaned. Or something. There's a lot in the message we couldn't make out.”

“Genesis also won't be showing up today, and we're not sure when he'll be back, because he's been called away on something. Therefore, until Reno gets back, you get these Rookies teaching you class today.” Chloe was a little nervous facing her classmates.

“But since we're just coming back from break, we decided to go with a little more of a relaxed atmosphere today.” Not that they could get more relaxed than Reno usually was, but whatever. Karla pushed a button and suddenly the room looked just like Caritas, complete with zombie band and karaoke machine. “So, in Hawaii, I heard about a new kind of teamwork,” Karla was sometimes an shameless eavesdropper in public, okay? “It's called wingmen. Or wingpeople, I guess, because both genders can be one or have one.”

“According to what I found on the Google, a wingperson has lots of duties--” and most of them struck Karla as unsavory “--but one of them is helping their friend get out of trouble when a date starts going sour. Whether calling their phone with an emergency or pretending to recognize a long-lost acquaintance to pretending to be choking and needing the Heimlich maneuver, a good wingperson can get their friend away from a bad date without the date ever suspecting.”

Karla frowned at that. “Though it would probably just be better to tell the date you're not interested. But that doesn't involve teamwork, I guess.”

Chloe smiled slightly and looked back at the class. “Which is where this class is going to come in. You're going to break up into teams of two. What you groups need to decide is who is the person who needs a ruse to leave, and who is the wingperson.” She grinned. “We have NPC dates from the Danger Shop and each one comes with one of those annoyances that you just have to get away from.” She grinned. “Karla has the list of bad dates."

"Once you've successfully rescued your friend, swap!" Karla finished, handing out the lists.

Library, Monday

For all that he relished the chance for new experiences, there was a part of William that was equally fond of routines. Which meant, of course, the library bright and early on a Monday.

The library, of course, was predictable in its unpredictableness. Which was really just a roundabout way of saying that odd things were afoot.

Odd things like books about sharks suddenly finding their way into every possible section imaginable. And while he could conceivably make a case for the one he'd found in the biography section actually belonging there (There were worlds out there with sentient sharks. That sort of thing just wasn't as surprising as it might have been months ago.), he was fairly certain there was no rhyme or reason for a book on shark facts to be amongst the arts and crafts books. Honestly.

The snacks and the pizza alike were taking on a distinctly tropical bend for the meeting today....it looked like someone was already kind of missing Hawaii a little already. But that was neither here nor there! There was a club to held. And, this week, it appeared that Alexander was starting it with the help of someone new today.

“Welcome back,” he started, “and to those of you who didn’t join the majority of us on the Kohala Coast, you were certainly missed. If you don’t really know him already, I’d like to introduce you to Warren here; he’ll be helping me with the club today.”

Neither of them really knew how that came about; it was one of those chain-of-event things where one thing lead to another, and so there they were, and it worked.

Warren offered the entire group one of his crooked, uncertain little smiles, and lifted a hand to wave hello.

“Hey, guys,” he greeted. “Like Alexander said, I’m Warren. Kind of a prodigal frat son who came back after a little bit, actually. I was a member last year, and I hope that I’ll be able to do some justice to the fraternity while I’m here.”

The money would help. Trust, at least, that the money would help a lot.

“As for what we’ll be doing today,” Alexander continued, “some of you may have heard that there’s a career fair coming up. I know it’s different everywhere, but, where I’m from, one trade can be incredibly important, as can the skills that can come along with what makes our careers when we’re older, out of high school and making men of ourselves. I thought we could talk a little bit about what our own ambitions for the future may be, and then find someone with whom to share your trade this week. Anyone at all, just to reach out and share something with someone that they might find useful.”

“And trust me,” Warren added, with a little smile as he straightened up a bit, “there’s no chosen career that’s too silly, honest. If you wanted to be a fireman growing up, there’s nothing wrong with that. If you still want to be? Even better.”

And if you wanted to be a brontosaurus growing up, Peter, then at least you had big ambitions.

"I hope you all enjoyed your Spring Break. Relaxed, recharged, and ready for class again." Max grinned. Everyone was probably reassured!

"Today we're going to try something different. And that difference is: no powers." He held up a hand. "Now, I know this class is specifically about fighting with powers, and that hasn't changed. But one of the quickest ways to become aware of the advantages that powers offer you is to do without them."

"Once you've spend this period sparring with each other using just your muscles and wits, you'll all come to appreciate what you can do a little more, I think." Then he smirked. "Some of you, of course, always fight without powers. So consider this a day for you to take it easy."

Or something.

"So. We haven't really discussed what we want to do with the club yet... how about field trips? Anyone have a preference?"

Muffins, coffee, cocoa and cookies were laid out to nibble on while considering trips and how to make them viable.

Something absolutely tragic must have happened for Alaric to allow Caroline to teach of all things. Give feedback on formal wear? Definitely. Paint a float? Sure! Set a car on ramps to get worked on? Perhaps in desperation! But lead young people toward knowledge? Yeah, not so much a Caroline thing.

"Wow, okay! So, Ric is...somewhere obviously not here," Caroline started, smiling at her peers and hoping no one just up and left right away. "But class must go on, and I've got his emergency plans. Weirdly, they involve showing a movie, which is so below my skillset when it comes to the paranormal, right? I mean, I'm from one of the most supernatural towns in Virginia. We had old timey witch hunts and vampire dens and a whole bunch of randomly appearing werewolves! Okay, and seriously? What is up with werewolves and like, living in recreational vehicles and wearing old, dirty clothes? These guys should have just as much cash in hiding as the vampires. Living it up is totally possible over time, okay?"

Right, class. "But I digress. It's a movie day and our feature film is Battle of the Dragons, starring that super hot Jesus-wannabe Oscar winner. And some dude in an eye patch. Um, I think the paranormal aspect is dragons? Because some people must think they're real. If they are, I'm just gonna be over here, hoping never to meet one. Unless it means I get my own bearded Jesus to protect me."

And lo, she pressed play and shut her trap.
