Dan wasn't exactly the cabin-y type of guy, so he was thankful he had an excuse to spend time in the library today. He grabbed a few poetry books from the shelves and decided to occupy himself with that, hoping that it would inspire him to write later.

There were bins of felt, yarn, googly eyes, and other accoutrements set out on the tables today, along with a couple of hot glue guns and, most worrying, a sewing machine. "Good morning, everyone," Steve said. "I hope you're enjoying life in the cabins. Today we're going to make finger puppets, because, well, because they're fun. I've supplied several different patterns, so just pick whichever one you like and you can get started. If you need help with the sewing machine, ask me or one of your classmates. If you can't use a sewing machine but can manage needle and thread that's available, too. Alternately, you can glue the edges of the puppet together. It can get kind of messy, but it's certainly less messy than sewing your fingers." He had a first aid kit standing by just in case, though. "Have fun, guys."

Dean had handwavily sent an email to everyone, telling them that today's class had been moved to Caritas.

When everyone arrived, they found Dean leaning back against the bar, munching on peanuts and talking to Chuck. He swallowed one last handful of nuts (not dirty) and turned to grin at everyone.  )

Class was being held outside near the Preserve again despite the rain. If the students wanted to really learn about the outdoors, the elements would have to be something they'd have to cope with.

He's even happy in the rain! )

This week's note and map would lead the kids out into the Preserve. When the students arrived, they'd find Mick sitting crosslegged and barefoot in the middle of a small clearing. Next to him was a battered cardboard box and he was methodically sharpening a very large knife.

Which he used to make this cut )

The Danger Shop looked like an empty room with plastic sheeting on the floor. There was a rack of lab coats off to the side and goggles on a table, one for each student. Hawkeye was already wearing his.

Evenly spread out through the room were dummies, a lot like last week's dummies, only now they had full bodies and were properly clothed.

"Humans bleed. Everything from a paper cut to losing a limb will make you bleed. If you lose enough blood, you'll die. Stop that from happening. I won't force you to be elbow-deep in blood today, so our patients will be bleeding green slime."

He then demonstrated on one of the dummies how to treat a bleeding wound and to recognize the signs of internal bleeding.

The lecture also included demonstrations on treating stab wounds and bullet wounds.

"Your turn! The slime is 100% real world material. It stains. Lab coats and goggles are over there if you need them. Your patients will start bleeding in 30 seconds. Use the materials you have," which were pretty much whatever they or the dummies had on them, "to stop the bleeding. Or get slimed. It's in your best interests to practice stopping the bleeding, but I can't deny you the fun of getting slimed."
