The class was meeting back in the Danger Shop today. That, unfortunately, meant Loki couldn't sprawl on his desk but it also meant he might get a really fucking funny show depending on how things went.

When the students arrived today, they would find themselves in a regular classroom setting - regular except for the strange-smelling buffet at the front of the room.

"If you are traveling around the world in this day and age, you would be hard pressed to find a place that did not have a McDonald's, or a Burger King, or some other kind of safe, Americanized cuisine. But when you are traveling, experiencing new foods can be a lot of fun, and if you do not want to appear as an outsider, you might have to eat some foods with which you are unfamiliar. Today, we will be trying some different foods from Europe. They might look or smell a little strange, but I assure you, everything here is good."

Scout had woken Sam up way, way too early this morning, so Sam intended to have a lazy kind of day in the library today. He settled in at the computer with the biggest cup of coffee he could get from the Perk, and started running virus checks and updates to make sure everything was running as well as it could. It was kind of like cleaning, except that he got to sit and check his e-mail while he was doing it.

Danger Shop? Who needed it? Drake had conjured up a dance floor in the center of the class room for today, which should have been fair warning about what the class would go over today. For the students to sit, instead of desks there were several round tables like you'd find at a wedding or prom. There was no table number 9.

"Today, we're going to talk about slow dancing," Drake said. "It's a safe assumption that at some point in your dating career, you're going to end up on a dance floor, and the music could suddenly slow down. I'm going to make sure you're prepared and don't run flailing from the dance floor." He snapped his fingers, intending to change his outfit to something suitable for dancing. "Wait, no, that's not right." Snap. "That's not it, either." Snap. "Not what I had in mind, but it'll do. Now, if my lovely assistant Angela will join me...."

Fortunately, Drake didn't conjure up anything ridiculous for Angela to wear; she had on a lovely dress that totally complimented her coloring because Drake was a big fan of Project Runway and paid attention to details like that. "First off," he said, demonstrating with Angela as he spoke, "assume the position. Face your partner. You want to be close, but enough space between you that you can move freely, about four to six inches or so between your hips. This is slow dancing, not the lambada, so save the grinding for later when the chaperons aren't around and just waiting to throw a bucket of water on you. Then there's the awkward placement of the hands. If you're a boy-girl couple, then generally the boy will put his hands on the girl's hips, and the girl puts her arms around the boy's neck. Or you can just go with the taller person with hands on the hips, and the shorter with arms around the neck. You just want to be comfortable, and don't get handsy unless you've got a good comfort level with your partner and are pretty sure they won't slap you. Pay attention to your partner's body language. If you feel them draw back from you, then adjust your hands until you feel them relax."

Drake lifted one hand and snapped his fingers. A mariachi band appeared. "Fingers, you are so fired," he sighed. He snapped his fingers again and the band vanished, replaced by a standard-looking wedding band, who began to play a song. "There, much better. Now, from here, it's simple, really. Just kind of step slowly from side to side, moving in a circle, and mind your partner's feet. If you're coming close to stepping on them, adjust the space between you; you're probably too close. Go with the music, and take a step every beat or so." He demonstrated with Angela, even dipping her at one point. "But don't go for the advanced moves unless you're sure what you're doing," he grinned.

"OK, find a partner and hit the dance floor."

Alysha was still cursing (but not too loudly, even 1,000 miles away, that was just asking for trouble) the 'family emergency' that had dragged her back home last week. It was less an 'emergency' than the aunties being a little peckish, and it would have been much more manageable if she hadn't just been back for the Ritual on May 1.

"Welcome back, everybody," she said, once they were assembled in the Home Ec room. "I'm sorry I couldn't be here last week, and thank you very much to Sookie for ably taking over the class. We're going to continue our look at the simpler baked goods today by making cookies. Cookies are generally pretty easy. You cream butter with sugar, add flour and any other ingredients and bake 'em for about 10 minutes." Alysha, as always, had a view of baking that didn't really include the possibility of failure.

"If you haven't made cookies before or you're not comfortable with it, I'd suggest you stick with making chocolate chip cookies or snickerdoodles today. They both have just a few ingredients and don't require anything more than a spoon to mix. If you have more experience or you're just feeling adventurous, choose a recipe from the book on the table and go to. Anything you need is either already on the tables or in the refrigerator. The butter's already softened and on your workstations as are copies of both the chocolate chip and snickerdoodle recipes."

"Any questions for the class? Okay, find a partner to work with if you like, and i'll be wandering around if you run into any troubles."

Artie was once again waiting for all the students outdoors, this time surrounded by a wide array of colorful flag-like material.

"Welcome back, students, vikings, and pirate-type student-vikings! I hope you all have had a pipe week and are all rested up, because today we get active!" He bounced around in place for a moment, then struck a pose, arms out, holding bright orange signal flags. "Today we play Capture the Flag!" He threw the flags in the air and ran in a circle.

"For those who might not know, Capture the Flag is a game in which you have a flag! And so does everyone else! And you must get the other person's flag, which may be hidden in flags or possibly on their head, in order to win! And don't let them get yours!"

Well, that was a vast simplification of the rules.

"Be aware, students! Your flag could be anywhere, and perhaps might be only vaguely or not at all flag like! I have several samples here available to you. You can team up against your fellow students! Or you can try to be a lone wolf puppy! But the most important thing is to have fun!"

[ooc: wait for the OCD, yes? Capture those flags!]
