It was the first club meeting after the cruise and Gavin figured that everyone could see extra snacks and drinks just to make sure they got through the day. So, Gavin, being a sometimes observant guy, provided those and hoped that he didn't provide too much and everyone would be falling asleep.

"Welcome back," Gavin said, greeting them all with a nod. "Hope everyone had a fun time on the cruise and didn't bring back any sickness or sunburn. If you did, you can just sit out today and recover. If you didn't, today we're going to do something a little different. I've set up some scenarios that you'll have to run through. You can use any of the previous methods of flight we've talked about or any that we might not have. Because, really, we can get into the sim all we want and fly around but most likely, we're not just going to be leisurely flying most of the time. So, eat some snacks and then take your turn!"

Gavin clapped once and then opened the door to the shed.

"Oh, and uh, don't fight with each other." See, he could learn from his mistakes.

"Once you've defined the problem you need to develop an action plan," Nathan said as he passed around that week's handouts. "Your action plan is the steps you are going to take in order to solve this problem. Today I want you to get into groups and develop an action plan to solve a problem.

"The problem is this: As a group, you want to convince me not to give you guys a final exam. Put your heads together - not literally - and come up with a plan for how you're going to convince me to do that. For the record, the odds that I'm going to agree with you are pretty small, but for the sake of the class let's see what you come up with."

Nathan grinned at them. "I'm here if you have any questions."

As much as he'd enjoyed being on spring break, Sam was glad to be back in the library, and didn't have any trouble getting settled back in after a week away.

"Hello, class!" Hammer boomed, striding out before the class once everyone was all assembled. "I hope you all had a nice time on vacation. I, meanwhile, stayed behind to protect the island from any evildoers who might attack in its vulnerable state."

He paused, beaming. "You're welcome."

"Today, class," he continued, "we're going to talk about the media. The paparazzi. Your future best friends, as a hero."

"By now," Mohinder started from his perch on the desk at the front of the classroom, "You should all have some idea of how complex a machine is the human body. As long as it's still healthy and functional that's fine. But it does mean there are almost countless ways for it to break down."

"Whatever resources are put into a healthcare system," he continued. "It cannot provide the best treatment to all of its patients. Newer drugs and treatments are more effective, but more expensive so fewer can be prescribed. The lucky few may live longer and happier at the expense of their less fortunate neighbours."

"So, if you have the extra money in your budget you could spend it on a drug that lowers someone's risk of a heart attack, or on surgical equipment that reduces the chances of death during brain surgery. More people will benefit from the drug, but the surgery will give those who undergo it more years." He started passing round handouts. "I want you all to talk these cases through, and try to come to decision."

The teachers were back from their vacation, and, if they looked slightly less well-rested than the students, that was to be expected.

The students, after all, had not spent any part of the cruise being attacked by Nazi bees.

"Labor unions," Tyler said briskly, once everyone who was coming seemed to be in a seat and relatively quiet, "are our subject of the day as we get to the turn of the 20th century. This is the time when unions arguably had their greatest influence over American life. We have a handout for you because it is a lot to go through in an hour, but we'll try to talk through some of the high points."
