Mohinder was a little more subdued this week.

"Alchemy is one of the forerunners of modern chemistry, an attempt to better understand this world around us without the rigorous framework that we would recognise as a science today."

Mohinder took a coin from his pocket and flipped it up in the air. "A common theme throughout the centuries is the search for right circumstances to turn base metals into gold. Although these claims are unverified the belief in them remains constant, a common need to believe in what - " Mohinder took a breath "at least, so far - seems beyond the reach of our chemical and physical sciences."

"Would you maintain a belief in the weight of so much evidence against it?" he asked, looking at the coin in his hand, before pocketing it again.

Turning back to the class, Mohinder told them, "The closest we can come to this is plating one metal with other. Try using this setup to change your metals."

"Today we're covering Tort Law," Nathan said as he passed around the handouts. "Otherwise known as the type of law that tends to give lawyers a bad name. As with almost anything, it can be good or bad depending on how you use it. The good is that it provides an extra incentive for people and companies to be accountable for their actions. The bad can be found in any ambulance-chaser you've ever met or heard of.

"For today's class I want you to pair up and choose a tort case. Take opposing positions and see which one of you has the better argument."

Adah had to admit to still feeling a little weirded out by the weekend; childhood, for her, seemed so long ago that it was jarring to be reminded of what it had been like. She'd forgotten what it was like to be that new to moving, so that when she moved now, it seemed so fluid and easy by comparison, like in one of her dreams. She'd forgotten what it had felt like before she wanted to be a doctor and, instead, despised them, because all those tests and pokes and painful check-up sessions were still fresh in her head. She'd forgotten what it was like to still be so asleep, just barely blinking out of waking.

It left her even quieter than usual, and more mobile.

"Good morning, everyone," said Richie, as the class settled in. "Today we're going to talk about reporting. As you probably know, the news is serious business, and must be treated as such."

No, for serious. )

Today the desks in Anakin's classroom had been pushed along the walls and replaced with cushy pillows and blankets.

"Today we talk about sloth," Anakin said, holding himself even more carefully and clearly uncomfortable with the very idea of relaxing. The students were certainly not expected to be held to the same standard.

"Originally, sloth was described as 'an uneasiness of the mind'," Anakin continued. "Apathy. Melancholy. Joylessness. And importantly, the decision not to do anything about it."

He shrugged. "The modern view understands that the mind is slightly more complicated than that and sometimes it is impossible to will yourself not to be sad. Instead, this sin focuses on the failure to utilize your talents and gifts."

He made eye contact with each student. "In a place filled with as many talented people as this one, I can view it as almost criminal to not live up to the potential each of you has. Today, pair up and talk about what your plans for the summer are, and how what you will be doing will be helping you in what you might think of as your greater destiny."

He waved at the blankets. "Or embrace your inner sloth and take a nap. Being tiny this weekend can be tiring."

The Danger Shop was once more set up as a lecture hall. After the class had settled, he started.

"I trust that you are all sufficently recovered from your weekends," he said. "Today you'll be watching Driving License. I'd like you to take notes and to consider how you would handle the situations presented in the film."

[ooc: wait for OCD up!]
