"Everyone did wonderful on their plant inspections, although some of you seemed to have forgotten that plants need water, hmm? Besides that fact, your plants have sprouted and some are already showing signs of buds, which is quite lovely!"

"Today will be a pretty easy day, as I have other things to attend to, please take a seat and look through your Plant Anatomy worksheets. On Friday we will take a deeper look of the plant and it's functions."

[[ OOC: Sorry this is late! I was occupied until very late last night. No discussion is needed. Just post below. ]]

[OOC: After Tuesday? Easy class. Have fun. No real need to take notes, even though Tick mentions it, and no real need to keep the chatter at a minimum. I kind of want to know what happens in the episode by the time class is done, so chatter away. Class Info Post.]

The Tick was standing at the podium when the class walked in. Lockheed was in the back of the room with popcorn.

"Okay, class! After the... fun of Tuesday's class," Tick began, abusing sarcasm on the word "fun," "I thought it would be a good idea to slow things down, take it a little easy, and do a few little things today. Most importantly, at the end of class, Rory will be giving you a writing assignment. Yes, class, you will have an essay to do."

"Before that, though, we will be watching an episode of Crime & Punishment which starts with Detectives Larry Boscoe and Mark Loggin investigating a murder in a hotel. Please take some notes on how the different branches of Justice are portrayed in the series and keep the chatter at a minimum."

"But before we do that, I have something brief I would like everyone to do. It's voluntary, but I really would appreciiate it if everyone did it. For both my sake and yours, I would like you to take a vow in the name of this class. You too, Rory."

[Continued in the OCD threads which will be up in a moment are up. Rory will have her own thread for the writing assignment, so watch for that. Writing assignment is up. Give it to Rory by next Thursday.

And now there is toast. You know what kind.]

Roster )

There is, of course, junk food at the front of the room. Twinkies, Ho-Ho's, Doritos, Funyons, doughnuts, cinnamon buns, and bananas. Help yourself.

"Professor Ted's not here today, guys. He left me and Bridge in charge of the class. I would say fear but I'm a nice guy. I really am. Anyway, today's topic is The Uncharted Territories. What's an uncharted territory, you may ask? Exactly what it sounds like, dudes. Places, planets, species, stuff we haven't yet discovered. There's a whole universe out there filled with new and cool stuff!"

Discussion: "Let's say you're propelled into some part of space where no one has gone before. Perhaps you got there by a freak solar flare accident or teleportation or just really bad luck. The natives of said space are curious but wary. You have to explain the music of your world to them in fifteen words or less or they take you to their leader and bad things may happen. How would you explain your world's music?"

"Also, if you could, please hand in and present your interview assignments, dudes. Hope you didn't flake or Professor Ted might turn Professor Ninja on you."

Classics: "You're due for the second of your four quizzes. Please take it, then use the rest of the class period to study or read."

The quiz consists of a brief passage from Theogony in Greek, which students are asked to translate and answer five questions about.

[OOC: Yep, tell me what grade you got.]

Foreign Literature in Translation: We will continue our wortk on Russian literature by studying the modern Russian concept of барды, or bard poetry.

Dream continues to lecture. At the end of his lecture, he gestures to some volumes of modern Russian poetry that are at the front of the class.

"Please find and present the lyrics to one such "bard" poem."

"Good morning. As I said on Tuesday, today we will learn how to balance chemical equations."

Balancing Chemical Equations
Sometimes, however, we have to do some work before using the coefficients of the terms to represent the relative number of molecules of each compound. This is the case when the equations are not properly balanced. We will consider the following equation:

Al + Fe3O4---> Al2O3

"You have now learned to speak, if haltingly, in Dragon, Rat and Spider. Those are all difficult tongues, with rich histories and their own quirks -- from the choppy vowels of Spider, to the crooning of Rat, to the rhyming of the dragons. I applaud your sincere efforts to learn.

Today, I would like for each of you to pick a so-called nursery rhyme and translate it into the Creature language of your choice. I trust that you will have no problems in finding appropriate substitutes for words that may not be on your vocabulary sheets."

She barely moves, and when she does she looks sore. Don't ask her to pick up her arms...there won't be any hugs today. But that dumb grin isn't going anyplace soon.

Argue pro or con regarding the falling woman. Go.

Time to play. Each of you has a blindfold waiting on my desk. As you can see, all the tables have been pushed out of the way. Please, blindfold yourself.

I'll guide you around the room, and when you encounter another person, try to figure out who they are.

NO TALKING.

She's in her office reading Josh's transcript of the State of the Union address...dying laughing at the margin notes.
[identity profile] professor-lyman.livejournal.com
Josh stopped watching the latest episode of The Daily Show on his laptop when the campaigning class walked into the classroom.

"Today we go into the idea of research in more detail," he said. "As the dancing cartoons on Schoolhouse Rock used to say, 'knowledge is power', and this is never more true than in politics." He raised an eyebrow. "Schoolhouse Rock is awesome, and I refuse to hear anyone who says otherwise." He snapped his finger. "Donna--" he was pointing at Angel, "how many days until the election?"

Research )

He sat down. "Okay, your assignment for today, due next week, is for your group to find three bills or laws or proposals that your guy was instrumental in implementing. Internet research, or hit the library--doesn't really matter to me. Just give me three good things that your guy has done that you think will be important to help get him elected."

Rory toddled sleepily into the library after ACJ, and took her usual position behind the desk.

Library's open. It has books. Go read or something.

Once again, Professor Pierson has catered (literally) to his students by having a layout of culinary delights from Jeff, God of Biscuits on a table in the front of the room. Everything from doughnuts to bagels to muffins to croissants. Coffee and soda provide much-needed caffiene.

Methos himself is sitting at his desk, working on what looks like a photocopy of an ancient manuscript. He's got a modern spiral-bound notebook beside it, but he doesn't appear to be writing in it. Instead, he's flipping ahead in the ancient text, frowning as he reads.

On the board is written:

EXAM 1

Pick three topics and write or handwave 100 words (at least) on each:

- Pre-Roman Britain
- Roman Britain
- Anglo-Saxon Britain
- The Battle of Hastings
- The reign of William the Conqueror

When finished, you may turn in your papers and leave.

Business Law – First Period [2/9]

Lorelai looks a little pale and doesn't have as much energy as usual, but she smiles at the class after they're all seated.

"Okay, gang, sorry about my recent absences. I've been ill, but I should be okay now. Thanks, Piper, for handling everything while I was out.

Today we're going to talk about Civil Litigation and how it relates to businesses."

She gives the students a handout:
Civil litigation has at least three meanings. It may connote an entire legal system, or either of two different bodies of law within a legal system:
1. a legal system
2. the set of rules governing relations between persons (either humans or legal personalities such as corporations); here the contrast is public law, especially criminal law;
3. Secular law, as opposed to canon law.

Then gives a lecture

"No discussion today, but make sure you turn in your homework from last class."

HR Management – Sixth Period [2/9]

Lorelai is still a little pale and an astute observer might notice that she's drinking juice, but she smiles at the class after they're all seated.

"Okay, gang, sorry about my recent absences. I've been ill, but I should be okay now. Thanks, Piper, for handling everything while I was out.

On Tuesday your assignment was to come to class today with five questions you might run across on a job interview. I want you to pair off and do mock interviews. If there's someone left over, you can work with me."

[yes I expect you to do this. According to my roster there are 5 people in this class, but I haven't seen one of them around in the last couple weeks, so just pair off however you want.]

Sex Cultures

Grissom is definitely smirking.

"No lecture today. Instead, I am going to assign you a partner, and give each team a unique assignment.

Today in class, you should chat with your partner and discuss how you are going to develop your presentation on the topic I am going to give to you. Each team will present on Tuesday.

Now, as you may remember, we have been discussing marriage and its role in our society. Most cultures have a ceremony of some kind, to officially begin such a union. Generally, that's called a wedding. However, different societies have much different ways of conducting weddings, and I think it would be very useful for everyone to see some of these differences first hand.

So..." oh, the smirking. "You are your partner will each be assigned a type of wedding. I will give you each a packet with the information you will need. And then, on Tuesday you will act out the ceremony for all of us with your partner.

Kissing of the bride optional.

And your partners are..."

[OOC: Please remember, no godding that your partner is late to class. Slow-play is our friend. Threads with partners and assignments will be going up in the next few minutes, thanks! Up! Also, mwahahaha.]

[[I? Am dead. Ergo, movie time!]]

"Grail quests. On my desk," Camulus orders. He's looking a little distracted today which may or may not have anything to do with Orlin. "And now on to a related topic, but instead of making you read and taxing your poor brains, we'll be watching a film entitled 'The Mists of Avalon', which provides a more female perspective of the legends. Sit down. Be quiet. Pay attention."
