Summer Shenanigans, Wednesday, August 3, 2022
Today the Slip 'n Slide plastic was back, along with two card tables flipped upside down. This could only end in the clinic.
"Today we're splitting into two teams for some table surfing!" Anakin announced with the sort of enthusiasm that said he would not be participating in this insanity. "The rules are simple: one team member rides the table, two others hold the table steady and the rest of you get underneath it to move it along the Slip 'n Slides and to the end of the course!"
That sounded really painful, Anakin.
"Listen for your names!"

Re: Voluntolds, Come on Down!
"It would be easier to care less." Things would hurt less if he cared less. "But I never learned how."
Re: Voluntolds, Come on Down!
Re: Voluntolds, Come on Down!
"It's not failing so much as...no, failing works. I suppose. I try not to worry, you know that. It just doesn't always work."
Re: Voluntolds, Come on Down!
"Truuuuue," Summer allowed, "but I think what matters is that you don't let that worry hold you back....you know?"
Re: Voluntolds, Come on Down!
"I'll have to ask him if he'd like to. Or when he'd like to, do something else."
Re: Voluntolds, Come on Down!
Which meant that if he chickened out and there wound up being nothing to be heard all about, then she'd have no choice but to be terribly disappointed. And he didn't want that, now, did he?
Re: Voluntolds, Come on Down!
He never wanted to disappoint her, no. Not if he could help it. He hated people being disappointed in him.
"I meant to ask...how many pictures did you take?" He was curious, ok? Maybe he was a social media celebrity as a colorful koala!
Re: Voluntolds, Come on Down!
But the question made her snort. "Not a lot!" she admitted, sounding a little disappointed already by that fact. "I kind of lost the urge to snap too many of them considering that first attempt at getting a picture of you is what opened the door for Anakin foisting you on me the way he did!"
Re: Voluntolds, Come on Down!
"I would have thought you would have plenty. I haven't seen any. Anakin said his daughter took them, after she turned me colors."
If Travis hadn't taken a photo with a koala in a fire hat everyone was going to be very disappointed.
"I did get passed around a lot, didn't I?"
Re: Voluntolds, Come on Down!
"I mean," said Summer, "I wouldn't say a lot. It was just from Anakin to me to Travis. It's not like you were sent around the whole island, or anything."
And at least one of those steps was taken for the clear benefits from which he was currently reaping!
"But," she said, pulling out her phone and taking a moment to scroll through a lot of photos taken before now and then until she found the right one, and turned it his way to have a look. "This is the one I managed to take right before you mistook a photo op for a transfer."
Re: Voluntolds, Come on Down!
"At least Anakin got hugged," he said with a small shake of his head. "That is a lot of color." He was glad it hadn't all still been there when he changed back but he wasn't sure he wanted to bring attention to the fact that he knew that Summer had seen exactly how much color had remained, and where.
Re: Voluntolds, Come on Down!
And it had worked, dammit!
Someone had to do the dirty work, apparently...
"She did not hold back," Summer agreed, and, really, she had to respect Juliet for that. She turned the phone back to scroll through to another one, that she had managed to take in a brief second when she'd successfully managed to get Stark to let go, which had been an unfortunately brief moment in time in her apartment indeed, and showed that one to him, too, before moving onto the one that had Pancakes' full-on open disapproval of whatever that rainbow colored creature that Summer had dared to bring into her home on display.
Re: Voluntolds, Come on Down!
"Should I apologize to Pancakes for disturbing her?" he asked when he saw that last picture.
And did he need to apologize for having clung to everyone else?
Re: Voluntolds, Come on Down!
"I wouldn't," Summer advised. "Then she'll know it was you."
Barry was still dumping a ton of money into appeasing that cat, even after all this time. Staying on her good side was apparently a very big deal.
Re: Voluntolds, Come on Down!
"Hmm. I could just bring a gift, sometime." Catnip for Pancakes and space booze for Summer, maybe? Maybe a night of drinking without a breakdown would be a nice change.
Re: Voluntolds, Come on Down!
Of course, if Summer knew that there would be space booze for her involved in this transaction, her response would have been entirely different.
Re: Voluntolds, Come on Down!
"Are you sure? I thought she might like something. Maybe I should bring Travis's dog a present?" Probie seemed to like him already but it couldn't hurt.
Re: Voluntolds, Come on Down!
Re: Voluntolds, Come on Down!
Let's face it. Stark needed all the date ideas he could get.
"I do like the dog. That could be a good idea. I haven't really ever been on many dates." Only with Faye. And not as many as he would have wanted.
