Classic Video Games ; Monday ; Period 1
Even though he'd made the decision to stay, it still surprised Riley when he walked into the classroom to teach another class in another semester. He truly thought he'd be one and done but no. Apparently, a part of him liked this place. Go figure.
Once the students had arrived and Riley had hooked up the consoles they'd be using for today's video game, he got started on the brief lecture.
"Hey guys, welcome to what I think is the first class of the new semester," he said, half smiling. "Yeah, it's a little early which means it's a little cold but hey, you're all here now. Today, we're gonna take it easy and get the introductions out of the way but we're gonna play a video game too. For those that don't know, this class is about classic video games. Each class, we'll take a look at video game from the past that you played on a console that is no longer relevant. Now, I know some of you might come from different worlds were tech is a little different and video games might be either more advanced or not even invented at all. For this class, though, we'll be concentrating on this world's video games since that's what I know and I'd love to sound like the smart person in the room."
He knew there was one or two people who might make that hard. Kids were so smart these days.
"So, intros. Easy peasy. Just let me know your name and what type of video game you like. Puzzle, adventure, role playing, simulation, anything. You can give me an example of a video game you really like too, if you want. After that, I've got some Atari consoles hooked up -- "
Yes, Atari.
" -- so we're gonna play some Pitfall. Let's get started!"
Ah, nerdism. Riley was in his element.

Re: Introductions [CVG 01/06]
"Good to see you again, Stiles," Riley said, nodding. "I honestly stink at first person shooters since I tend to let people sneak up on me too easily and therefore, I die a lot. But, we'll definitely be looking at FPS and RPGs for the class. We'll see if I've improved at all."
Probably not. "Anyway, welcome back."

Re: Introductions [CVG 01/06]
A short pause.
"Yeah, that's it."

Re: Introductions [CVG 01/06]
Well, he hoped his selection of games measured up, at least. "You'd be surprised at how hard some of the older games are. They have made lesser men cry. You ready for that?"
Re: Introductions [CVG 01/06]
Re: Introductions [CVG 01/06]
"First run through of the game, no cheat codes. After that, go wild," Riley told him. "What's your policy on being my TA?"
Hey, he knew Topher was intelligent. Why not?
Re: Introductions [CVG 01/06]
Re: Introductions [CVG 01/06]
And Riley figured Topher would be some kind of leader, yeah. "I'll let you know about the games we're gonna take a look at in advance and keep everyone in line."
He hoped that one wouldn't have to be used. Really hoped.

Re: Introductions [CVG 01/06]
"My name is Jeff Moreau, but you all can call me 'Joker', because that's the name that's going to be on your screens when I'm teabagging your faces. My favorite games are space combat simulations -- the more realistic, the better -- but I'm a big fan of anything multiplayer that'll let me put the smack down on the noobs. And the crutches are because of a genetic bone disease. Do NOT mock them, or I will make you my special target."
Re: Introductions [CVG 01/06]
"Combat simulations are definitely big in the gaming industry these days," he said after a pause. "I think we can make a game like that happen one of these weeks, sure. And if anyone does mock, you have permission to make them your special target. Just no blood, please."
Had to kind of be an authority figure. Kind of.

Such a good adult, that Riley.
Re: Introductions [CVG 01/06]
Vic and Chase sometimes found time for that. Somehow.

Re: Introductions [CVG 01/06]
...sorry, Riley, you got the hyperactive arcade brat in your class. There isn't a game out there that Minako won't play obsessively. Except the hentai ones. Ew.
Re: Introductions [CVG 01/06]
Looking at you, E.T. the Extra-Terrestrial.
Re: Introductions [CVG 01/06]
Parents.
"And yeah, some games suck, but it's usually the fault of lazy writers and programmers, not the genre. I'm lucky that my local arcade ditches anything that doesn't play well pretty fast."

But he was going to beat this thing. Oh, yes, he was. He was going to ... "DAMN IT! I jumped! I totally jumped!!! Stupid scorpion!!!"
