Hero Management- Monday- Period 3- Class #1
It was Hermione's first day teaching.
It was a little intimidating.
Still, she was trying not to look intimidated, especially when this was a subject where she definitely knew what she was talking about. All she had to do was remind herself that she was in charge, and act authoritative. That part at least wasn't hard at all.
"Welcome to Hero Management. My name is Hermione Granger. You may call me Miss Granger," she started. 'Professor' didn't seem to fit in this situation and she wasn't about to let her students call her by her first name. "If you didn't read the class description when you signed up, or if perhaps you were signed up accidentally, this class is going to deal with how to manage being part of a hero's support system. If you've been in Fandom for any amount of time, you know that there are people who have important destinies, or who end up at the forefront of crises. This doesn't apply to most of us, but that doesn't mean there's nothing we can do to help. One of my best friends defeated the greatest Dark Wizard of our time at the age of seventeen. I won't say standing behind him was always fun or easy, but when he needed help, I wanted to do what I could for him. So for the next seven weeks, you're going to learn some things that will allow you to help out the best you can. And if by some chance you're one of the hero types taking this class, maybe you can pick up some pointers yourself."
"Now," she said, "the first week is usually all about introductions, which is exactly what we're going to do today. I want you to go around the room and introduce yourselves, along with the reason why you're taking this class. Let's start with you."

During the lecture
Re: During the lecture
One of the problems with Jack is that he has no internal monologue and tends to blurt out things as soon as they come into his head.
"Did she just say 'dark wizard'?" he asked in a hushed tone to nobody in particular.

Even if his attention stayed on Miss Granger, he was still restless enough to tap his fingers against his desk and twirl a pencil around between his fingers.

And noting that he might quite possibly be older than her. Sigh.
Introductions
Re: Introductions
That would be because Zoe filled out the curriculum choices for Jack because he's oblivious.
"I mean... okay, I tend to dive headfirst into crises when they erupt but that's just because somebody has to do it and somehow it's always my responsibility anyway. It's not like I need to be managed or anything."
Oh, Jack. There are so many people in Eureka that would disagree with you.

"Uh, well, I'm Luke Castellan and I'm taking this class because..." It took him another second to actually come up with his answer. "...I think there's a chance I might one day stop hogging the spotlight and let one of my friends do the hero thing and I could help them out then."
Well. At least he was right about the letting his friends do the hero thing part.

That sounded good, right?

"Hello," Wesley said. "I'm Wesley Wyndam-Pryce. I'm taking this class because a large portion of what I was trained to do for most of my life had to do with assisting heroes" -- well, heroines, but close enough -- "and it's rather something I'd like to be good at."

Re: Introductions
Someone was extremely biased. In a totally platonic way, though. Really.
"I don't think we'll agree on that any time soon, but that isn't the point, is it?" she went on. "The point is that when she and I are traveling together, trouble always manages to find us whether or not we're looking for it. Except a lot of the time we are looking for it. It's part of her whole search for redemption, trying to make up for the horrible things she did in the past -- and please don't ask me to elaborate or we'll be here all day . . ."
Keep talking this way, Gabrielle, and you'd be here all day anyway. Wrap it up, will you?
"She loves what she does. She's good at what she does, but sometimes she gets a little carried away, and I'd really like to avoid resorting to the good old hitting-her-over-the-head-with-a-rake solution again, if you know what I mean."
Oh, thank the gods. She was done.
For now.

Re: Introductions
"Stephanie Brown," she said, chin propped up on her hand and the best perplexed expression she could manage on her face. "Noooooo idea how I ended up in this class; I think someone in the office keeps putting me in the weirdest classes ever."
Also the concept of managing Batman was completely laughable. Maybe this was O's idea of a joke. Ha ha.
". . . but it'll be an interesting conversational point on my college transcripts later?"

Re: Introductions
All of Surreal's reading had been Craft lessons and poisons. Not so much history or fun fiction. Certainly not the corset-ripping novels some witches her age favored, which were filled with heroes.

That was about as specific as she could get about the warehouse, alas.

He shrugged a little, feathers ruffling a little behind him.
"I'm really not hero material, but I at least want to be able to be whatever it is that the people I care about need me to be."
