Civics - Art of Civil Disobedience Monday 4th Period
Jack waited while the class filed in. On her desk was a small square machine that looked like the world's wackiest printer. Because, essentially, it was. Behind it was a photographer rig with a neutral background and some umbrella-looking light diffusers.
"So the last few classes have been about gettin' out of restraints and gettin' a go-bag ready. Today's was supposed to be about dealing with the cops but the sheriff's," pause, "busy dealin' with some personal crap this week so he's punted to later. Today we're gonna talk about fake IDs. Something I am disappointed to find, every student at this school don't already have three of. Mostly kids use 'em for buyin' cigarettes or booze, which I don't condone, but it's always useful to have at least one extra identity. Even if it's one that exists solely for you to be able to burn it."
"I don't mean with actual flames. I mean, if you get stopped or hassled by the police or anyone, you can give 'em that name and ID info and then walk away and never use it again. It's called a burner identity. Not all of you look human and that'll set you up for some crap across the mainland. Which you already know. Most of you aren't from this reality or this planet and won't be up on all the laws and rules and sh..stuff. Combine the two of those, you got a recipe for more than your fair share of police harassment. Getting caught without identification on you is bad. They'll get all up in your business in a way you really don't want.
So. Today, we're going to set you all up with at least one fake ID. They won't be aged to let you buy booze, sorry. I'm not getting on the wrong side of the principal about that and besides, you can always go to Caritas. The first ID we do, we're gonna give it enough background ident that it'll pass a basic background check and we're gonna photoshop so your picture passes as human."
She looked around the room with a small frown. "This sucks," she said flatly, "We shouldn't have to photoshop anything or make you pass as anything. Believe that I know that. On this planet, on the other side of the causeway, that's all there is and you really don't want 'em finding out any different or you'll get a lot more attention than you want. We're gonna get you at least one little piece of plastic that'll get you past any minor sh..stuff. Then if you want, we can make you more with your real faces on 'em. Or other human disguises, whatever you want.
A good bolt strategy will have at least three different identities. You should also have at least two passports - we're not getting into that today - and at least one of the idents should be solid enough to take more than just a basic background check. Also not getting into that today. Today's just about getting you the basics."
"If you need some time to do your face or whatever, go do it now. When you come back, be ready to have your picture taken. If you strongly object to having a fake ID, sit and.. I dunno.. read about the Constitution or whatever. It won't affect your grade."
She hopped off the desk and went to set up the camera.

Questions/Comments/Discussion
Re: Questions/Comments/Discussion
Things like what her classmates did?
All she wanted was to go home and make art.
But at least now she could maybe do that under a false alias...
Conscientiously object
Re: Conscientiously object
Sometimes she really just hated -- everything.

"Sure. We'll go with that."
Weekend, two weeks. . . . Time was meaningless anyway.

Get your ID
You don't want that.
"Think about what your human face should look like. Any sort of features you want? What color hair and eyes do you want? Ears pierced? Facial piercing? Tattoos?"
Re: Get your ID
"Virginia Kolker," she decided, figuring she could go by Ginny for short, and finding something strangely thrilling about chosing the last name of the closest thing she'd ever gotten to a father. Before, you know, her mother murdered him. "And can we photoshop it with red hair?"
She'd done the red before, after all, and it had worked nicely. If she ever needed to slip into a false identity for whatever reason, it would at least be familiar.
Re: Get your ID
Once they had the picture, she began working the software to manipulate it. "It's going to give you an address - it's not gonna be here on the island. You'll want to memorize it and maybe look it up on some maps and look around the area. Sometimes you'll get asked about it by someone trying to trip you up - like, they'll say 'Oh you're from this area? I grew up there. Is there still this thing I remember?' and sometimes it's real, sometimes it ain't. It's good to not fall into those kind of traps."
Re: Get your ID
"Is it going to be a Maryland ID, then?" she asked, once Jack had finished explaining. Or can we do a different state? It seems like it'd be easier to work off an actual familiar place rather than try to learn about somewhere new that you've never even been."

She was more disgruntled about the idea of losing her lekku and gaining hair, honestly.
Re: Get your ID
Jack putzed around with the software a bit, desaturating Vette's face and then doing a total recolor. Gave her a tan and some freckles for gits and shiggles. Covered the lekku with brown curly hair. Gave her ears instead of ear cones.
The end result.. had enough of her face to be identifiable as the same girl. But it wasn't. "There's the first attempt. Any suggestions or changes you want?"
Re: Get your ID
"Oh. Oh, wow. Okay. That's... me, I guess." Hello, yes, there was the dysphoria, there. "On a long list of things I am meant to be, that person does not even place."
And then, after a pause.
"But it works."

"We don't have to do something different with our faces, right?"
Mae still didn't know people thought she had a cat head, no.
Re: Get your ID
"You're gonna want to go with something more average generic human than feline," Jack told her, "At least for one of 'em."

Talk to the TA
She's probably giggling her ass off at the idea of fake IDs because there's no way she doesn't have at least a dozen.
At. Least.
Re: Talk to the TA
Anyway, yeah, Peebee was looking kind of smug over here.
OOC
This is what I get for asking a cop and a bartender for information..
