"Let me tell you about my medical condition: Fibrodysplasia ossificans progressiva," Paris began. "It's a very rare connective tissue disorder where a mutation causes tissues or ligaments to ossify, either spontaneously or after being injured."

Paris tossed up a few extremely helpful photos up for everyone to examine. "Normally it presents before a patient is ten years old, who will live up to 40 years or so, assuming a doctor doesn't misdiagnose, look for biopsies and exacerbate the problem. There are only 800 or so known cases on the planet, though references to the disease date back to the 17th Century."

Paris chewed on her lower lip. "Definitely not poking them?" she offered, "but other than that, I really don't know. What did you do?"

"You got to treat a patient with a disease that rare," Paris said. "Was it exciting?"

Bedside manner will need work, Paris.

"Oooh," Paris said admiringly. "By yourself?"

"That's awesome," Paris said. "I'm thinking of going pre-med next year. Would you write me a recommendation letter?"

"Fair enough," Paris agreed, "but please consider it? I'm applying to Harvard and Yale. Yale's my back-up."
