Self-Expression- Monday- 4th period

Kitty was at least in a better mood today than she had been last week, which was probably good since she was planning on making everyone argue today, basically.

"A couple weeks ago, before things went even more insane than usual, we were talking about being able to argue without being a jerk about it. Which is one thing when you're on the internet. Sure, people are more likely to be terrible when there's some anonymity there, but you have the ability to look over what you're going to say and edit it before you hit post and put it out there. In real life, you don't get that time to plot out what you're going to say, and their reaction is more immediate because you can see it.

"So today, you're going to debate some topics. I want you to come up with a cause that means a lot to you, and talk about why it means a lot to you. And then everyone else gets to give their opinion on it, especially if it's different. You can talk about any cause, whether it's mental health or mutant rights or something specific to your home, and you can feel free to ask any questions you need to to form a real argument. Just try to be as civil as possible."

It was kind of hard to think of a cause right off the top of his head that he'd be passionate about. He thought about going for something ridiculous but refrained.

"I don't think white chocolate is real chocolate," he finally said, shrugging. It wasn't that ridiculous and it was the truth. "It's like a chocolate wannabe that doesn't even taste like chocolate should. It's sweet, sure, and it can be good but to carry the name chocolate? No."

Sigh.

"Fine, fine," Jim said. "I firmly believe that no situation is worth giving up on. There's never going to be 'live to fight another day' for me because I want to fight now and I want to win now. Leaving and retreating? It's stupid and dumb. What, you're just gonna leave people who depend on you because you want to fight another day? They probably won't get to do that so why should you? Stay and fight and take it to the end, whatever that might be."

Will took some time to think of something he thought he could debate in a decent manner. He hadn't really been paying attention to a lot of causes as of late for obvious (to him) reasons.

"Recently, I experienced what it was like to have your body be controlled by something that isn't your mind," he started off, scratching his cheek. "And it was terrible. It was personal too because I watched the same thing happen to my mother and I couldn't stop it before she died. And maybe this is something simple to argue but I really can't stand for people controlling other people in any sort of way, no matter if said person can't care for themselves or not. You can't take away that basic right and privilege because it makes the person feel like less than dirt. No one deserves to feel that way."

Eleanor didn't feel like talking about her mother today. Instead, she was going to choose a topic that would almost certainly spark some controversy.

"I think doctors are horrible people," she announced calmly. "I think that they claim to be altruists who care about healing and helping, but it's a facade. If you gave them the right incentive -- money, fame -- and promised them they wouldn't get caught, those so-called ethics would fly out the window. They'd make patients into guinea pigs faster than you can blink."

If anyone wanted to debate, good. If someone could actually convince her that she was wrong, so much the better.

(as for me, I'm fleeing for work, so AFK for a few hours BUT I WILL BE BACK FOR PINGS)
