When Vider realized no teacher was going to be forthcoming today, she quickly concluded that it was her job to take over--and that provided inspiration.

"Right!" she said, popping out of her seat and hurrying to the front of the classroom. "I'm in charge this week, then. Sometimes, you don't get to prepare for a quest. Sometimes the quest just happens." Sometimes you were babysitting and the next thing you knew you were driving the getaway car for a god while a berserker held back a riot. "So I want you to take stock of what you have with you today--not the backpacks we prepared, just your clothes and what you brought with you to class--and think about what you have with you on a normal day, and consider how well you'd be prepared for a quest if one popped up. Maybe you'd need to get different shoes first thing." Vider had. "Or maybe you'd need to find a weapon first thing. But some of the things you have are probably useful, and it's better to think about what you can use them for now than in the middle of a crisis. So let's do that."
