Basic Questing! Wednesday, Period Four

As the students assembled in the classroom, they'd see a table at the front was piled high with what looked like different camping supplies, as well as a backpack for each student.

"Sometimes," he began, once everyone had settled in. "We may not neccessarily know we are on a quest until after it's already begun. Other times, we are lucky enough to have time to prepare for a quest ahead of time. Today, we're going to do the latter. Before you, you see a number of supplies. Your pack can only hold a certain amount. You must choose which of these items you think will be the most useful, and pack accordingly."

"Why do I have to put everything in the backpack?" Vider wanted to know. "Why can't I put some things in my pockets and have more room in the bag?"

Just because she'd become a berserker didn't mean she'd forgotten how to think like Lokiskin.

"The pocketknife would be more readily accessible and useful in a pocket," Vider pointed out, "and maybe the compass, too. And by not keeping all of your things in one place you won't lose everything at once if you're separated from your bag."

Mercy had a flashlight, jerky/dried fruit, water, compass, tarp, waterproof matches, insect repellent, gloves, pocketknife, coil of rope, first aid kit, a winter hat, and a bandanna.

She could manage without sunglasses and writing supplies, the bandanna would work as a sun hat, a lighter could run out (and besides she knew how to start a fire from nothing as well as things to cook with from nature - thanks, Charles - or she could always shift), pillow and sleeping bag she could do without and hopefully she wouldn't need a climbing harness.

"I think I'm good."

Vider had the flashlight, matches, water & food, compass, tarp, bandana, pocketknife, rope, first aid kit, and change of clothes. She had reluctantly cut the gloves last, and would also have liked to have kept the sun hat (although she could improvise with the bandana, hi, had you seen her complexion? She needed all the help she could get) and was therefore still annoyed at having to count the pocketknife in the bag. "I would definitely take some kind of proper weapon. Probably a spear. Although obviously that wouldn't be in the backpack."

Billy had picked the change of clothes and first aid kit first, then filled up with lighter things - the pocketknife, lighter, flashlight, jerky/fruit, water, compass, tarp, and matches. Oh, and the pillow, because he wasn't that hardcore.

"I definitely wanted the first aid kit and the food. I figure I can live without the sleeping bag," he said. "I can't think of anything else I might need, but this is kind of a new concept for me."

Vider was still trying to figure out if she could sneak things into her pockets for later, or if that wouldn't work for whatever reason. Her relationship with rules was flexible, okay?
