Adventures Through History, Thursday, period 2

Students entering the Danger Shop for Pinkie's workshop today would find themselves on the deck of a grand -- and not even remotely historically accurate -- three-masted sailing vessel. There were ropes! There was rigging! There were masts and sails and a whole lot of barrels!

Each barrel, in fact, held a lovely lacy table cloth and a delicate little Georgian tea set. Looking out over the bow of the ship, the students would see a golden dome glinting in the moonlight.

Pinkie bounced up from below decks wearing a curly white wig and a lovely blue and yellow jacket with far too many buttons. "Hi, everypony! This is our first day of Adventures Through History! The class where you don't just learn about history, you get to live it! I'm Pinkie Pie, your professor, and welcome . . ." She paused dramatically for effect. A drum roll played. ". . . to the BOSTON TEA PARTY!"

Somewhere out there, Twilight Sparkle was face-hoofing like mad.

"That's right, apparently the Founding Feathers got a whole country started with a tea party, so I figured why not get our class started the same way? We've got lots of different kinds of tea, like Earl Grey, which isn't actually Earling anything, and oolong, which is just fun to say. Oolongoolongloolongoolong! So grab a costume, pick a barrel --" she had to pause here to giggle over how much that sounded like 'pickle barrel' "-- and get partying! Oh! And maybe talk about what kinds of things you'd want in a country you were just starting. Like balloons!"

Who needed introductions when there were costumes and tea to be had and countries to found? Really now.

"Oh! And hopefully there's a Cara around here, somewhere, 'cause she's signed up to be a TA. If anyone else wants to help, let me know! The more the merrier!"

Mercy wasn't quite sure how this was supposed to be a useful class, but she had to admit that being on a sailing ship like this was totally cool, even if it wasn't historically accurate.

After Wakko's class, Scully isn't sure why she's surprised. It's not like she picked either class. SIGH.

And giggle.

While Pinkie went on, Dave was thinking long and hard about whether this was weirder than Madrox's class. He wasn't saying yes yet, but it was possible.

Goose was wondering if Commander Walsh had even picked him to take this class but then again he had taken Jamie's class so he didn't think anything would actually surprise him.

This was exactly as ridiculous as Petra had been hoping it would be. Score.

Richie hadn't done so well in history. Mostly because he couldn't be bothered. But even he knew this wasn't even close to right. But he didn't care. The ship was pretty great.

Mercy chose the least complicated costume she could find and sat down at a barrel to try some lavender tea.

Scully had a midshipman's uniform-- it wasn't particularly complicated, and she got to wear pants-- and settled onto a deck to drink green tea.

The nice thing about this, as unrealistic as it was, was that it reminded of of sailing with her dad.

Dave stared at the party set-up in horror. Surely, SURELY, there had to be coffee somewhere. He was looking side-eyed at the gunpowder and hoping that it might be coffee grounds disguised as gunpowder.

Petra gussied herself up in a fancy dress and tall white wig, then poured herself a cup of blue tea because really, how often did you get to have blue tea?

Richie had a hat. It was ridiculous looking, but he was enjoying it.

He had some orange tea, too. Might as well get into the spirit of things.

If by bursting with excitement you meant completely and utterly bemused by how exactly she'd ended up in this position, then yes, yes, Cara was.

Mercy approached the, um... bright pink pony a bit cautiously. "Are most of the classes going to be like this? I mean, it was... fun, but not exactly, well... historically accurate."

"Ah..." Mercy said. Okay, it was going to be one of those classes. "Well, then, I think you did a very good job of making it a better party, I guess."

All Mercy could do was watch and shake her head as she giggled helplessly.
