So You're a Fugitive From Justice, Tuesday, 3rd Period

"You have to be able to trust people. That's a big thing in general every day life, but when you're relying on a few people to help you stay out of prison, it becomes a much bigger thing," Zayne said. "But when everything is heightened like that, you can't trust people implicitly without good reason."

"My crew had a Mandalorian named Rohlan Dyre. We first met him when an attack party he was leading ambushed an outpost we were robbing. When we tried to escape, he fled the battle by trying to steal our ship," Zayne said. "This was something he had done before, too. Apparently Rohlan started questioning the reasons the war between the Republic and the Mandalorians started, so after winning a battle, he would go on the run to find some answers. His superiors would fine him and send him back into battle to see if he would die. He wouldn't, he'd win the battle, and go on the run again."

"So it was pretty natural that he ended up with us, a bunch of people on the run and looking for answers about the Jedi, especially since our immediate concern was to rescue a bunch of people from a Mandalorian mad scientist who inspired a lot of Rohlan's questions in the first place."

"The scientist, Demagol, was horrible. He captured Jedi and tortured and experimented on them to see if he could find some way to create Mandalorian soldiers with their abilities. And we later found out that this was one of the less terrible things he'd done."

"Long story short, we overtook Demagol's base with some deception and captured him so the Jedi could bring him into Republic custody. But at one point, we left him alone with Rohlan. Mandalorians, for the majority of the class who wouldn't know, wear full armor at almost all times. Including helmets. Demagol knocked Rohlan out, switched their armors, and drugged Rohlan so he wouldn't be able to argue in his defense for a very, very long time. Meanwhile, Demagol joined my crew in disguise."

"As Rohlan, Demagol spent the next few months helping us when necessary, but mostly he seemed moody and kept to his own projects. Since we didn't know the real Rohlan very well and we were very busy with everything else around us, it took a while for the personality change to really sink in. We thought he was helping us because he had nowhere else to go, but he really just wanted to stick close to us to watch another one of his experiments.... And when the time came for him to drop the ruse, he did so. It didn't end well."

"So, the basic point is that if you're going to trust people completely in circumstances like this, you need to make sure you actually can. They could be a mad scientist, they could be a spy, they could be an undercover cop.... Just do your best to make sure, or at least be on your guard."

Yeaaaaah, considering there were times it felt like the universe was actively trying to see how many times it could utterly destroy her ability to trust people...Cara could tell this was going to be a fun class.

Of course there were Mandalorians. Why were there always Mandalorians?

Anakin's thoughts kept straying to the current state of affairs in his galaxy, though, and the Yuuzhan Vong advance agents who'd infiltrated Force only knew how long ago. And then, of course, to how impossible they were to sense in the Force.

It made for one very scowly boy who sat there and listened to the lecture today.
