BWI Portalocity Lounge [Sunday morning]

While Ramona had seen a lot of things, and traveling by portal hadn't really freaked her out or anything, she still wasn't really feeling great about being here. Maybe making an impulse decision to go to Maryland (of all places) hadn't been her best move.

In any case, though, she was here now, and there wasn't really a reason for her to turn back without giving it at least a day or so. So she lounged against the wall under the sign for Fandom High in the lounge, her bags by her feet as she waited for the shuttle.

"Hey," answered Stephanie, looking up from the class schedule. ". . . nice hair."

She had a pretty good feeling that was a sign Fandom wouldn't be anything like Brentwood Academy, which was fine with her; Tim had seemed pretty miserable there.

Things might be looking up already.

"Thanks." Ramona was choosing to see that as sincere, since most of the time when people complimented her hair, it was a toss-up between sarcasm and envy. "Fandom High-bound? Or are we just too cool for you to not come hang with us while waiting for a flight or something?"

"At the risk of accidentally crushing someone's ego I, too, am Fandom High-bound," Steph answered, turning the paper in her hand to display the school logo. (Just in case she had to prove it.) "I never realized this kind of travel was normal enough to have an entire airport lounge, though."

A Wayne Enterprises prototype maybe, sure. But this commonplace?

"Apparently so," Ramona mused, tilting her head at the room. "I mean, it's already way better than my last school. I just took the bus, you know?"

"Me too," Steph agreed. "I used to ride my bike, until my first high school got leveled in an earthquake and I got transferred to the one in the city. Then I had to take the bus. Actually living at school is going to be new."

"Earthquake?" Ramona's brow arched up. "That sucks. And yeah, I've never gone to a boarding school, either. It's either going to be awesome, or nightmareish. I figure it depends on the living conditions and who I share 'em with."

"Tell me about it." Steph wrinkled her nose. "The entire city got cut off from the rest of the country, and every criminal ever got loose. It wasn't fun."

Not that she was mentioning helping Huntress chase Daddy Dearest through the wreckage.

"But anyway. Do you know who you're supposed to be living with yet? They haven't told me."

Ramona shook her head. "I figure they'll tell me once we get there. Or else we all get our own rooms, but that doesn't seem all that likely." She paused, and held out her hand. "I'm Ramona, by the way."

"I'm going to have to keep notes on people's names at this rate," Ramona noted. "I've only met...you know, everyone here, but I feel like it's probably going to get a lot more overwhelming very shortly."

"When we actually arrive," Steph said, nodding sagely. "And it's not just us newbies. Some people have fancy equipment for this, but a good ol' notebook and pen work just as well."
