Basic and Thaumaturgical Forensics - Wednesday, Period Four - 7/15

The Danger Shop had been transformed for this class; it now resembled nothing so much as a New Amsterdam alleyway, a little dirty, largely dark, and somewhat foreboding.

"Welcome to today's class. As your syllabus said, today we are studying the crime scene. While my current position means that I usually come to the scene after the police have already done quite a lot of work, you will not always be so lucky.

"So... your first job is to find the body. Your second is to notice as many pieces of information as possible, and your last is to figure out, from the clues left to you, what your next step should be. I would like you to work in teams; help each other, try and find someone with a different skillset from you, or someone who might pick up what you wouldn't think of."

[ocd up, sorry this is up so late!]

Momoko was looking about as she listened, wondering if all murders took place in dirty and poorly lit areas. "First a public bathroom, now an alley?"

Harper leaned over to whisper to Momoko. "Maybe murders aren't supposed to happen in really nice, well-maintained areas," she said. "I never saw anything like that on Waverly Place, and that was a really good area of New York City."
heromaniac: (thinking)

Momoko thought for a moment. "But you'd think you would want a place you could see what you're doing and so you don't leave anything behind or get anything on you." Momoko whispered back. Haven't bad guys heard about forensics?

"Unless it's a crime of passion and you're not worried about getting caught or anything," suggested Harper.

Ah, true. "You have a point! Although I really can't see anyone getting passionate in this alley. In fact, I don't see why you'd be here unless you had a real weird reason." And even then... "Doesn't the mayor care that there are places this bad in his city?"

Re: Listen/Talk

[identity profile] chic-harper.livejournal.com 2009-07-16 02:50 am (UTC)(link)
"It's entirely possible that the mayor just doesn't care, especially if it's a large city and he has other things on his mind," said Harper with a shrug. "Hey, if there's a bar nearby, maybe someone was drunk, stumbled out, got robbed and killed! That would totally make sense, right?"

Maybe she should have actually looked at the evidence first before forming a theory.
heromaniac: (oh yeah!)

They needed to look for a dead person before they could actually declare it a murder, too.

"That sounds like a good theory! Now we just have to go in there and actually collect evidence and stuff. Like maybe the body has a wallet missing or something?" Momoko smiled back.

"We need to check the pockets," said Harper, nodding.

"Or what if it's a woman? The body in the Criminal Justice workshop was a woman." Momoko pointed out.

"Look for a purse? Almost every woman carries a purse," said Harper, holding up her own purse. It appeared to be made of the lids of soup cans, joined together like chain mail.

While not as hot on fashion as her BFF back home, Momoko did have some taste.

"Ah! That is a really cute purse! Who is it? It looks like armor!" She reached out a hand to touch the outside. Hopefully she wouldn't cut herself?

"It's my own design! I make clothing and accessories," said Harper, a touch of pride in her voice. She'd used a Safety Can (http://www.asseenontv.com/prod-pages/safetycan.html) so the lid edges weren't very sharp, just like Harper.

"That is totally awesome! My friend is going to be a fashion designer too! She's going to a high school back home that has fashion classes." Momoko bounced eagerly at Harper.

Re: Listen/Talk

[identity profile] chic-harper.livejournal.com 2009-07-16 03:47 am (UTC)(link)
"Oh, cool! I want to be a fashion designer, too," said Harper. "I've been making my own clothes for just about forever."
heromaniac: (smile hello)

"Wow!" Momoko was impressed! "Miyako hasn't been making clothes for very long. She does use me, and now Kaoru, as models, though."

She took a step back and looked at Harper's outfit. "Are you wearing something else of yours now?"

Re: Listen/Talk

[identity profile] chic-harper.livejournal.com 2009-07-16 04:23 am (UTC)(link)
"Oh, yes! I made this outfit that I'm wearing right now," said Harper. Just like the soup can purse, it was very, very handwavily wacky.

Savannah wasn't used to finding actual bodies, but for this class, she was making an effort...

...it still took her a few minutes to decide to look up. Once she saw the body, she started towards the working fire escape.

Momoko stepped gingerly into the alley, trying to avoid the worst of the grime and garbage while still looking for evidence and, of course, a body.

Professor Gibbs would be proud of her: she was wearing gloves!

I will not be too interactive until later or tomorrow as I was doing the work of three people today and I am wiped.
