Career Choices - Wednesday, December 5th - 4th Period
As the bell rang, Ghanima was (as usual) perched on the edge of her desk, feet swinging.
"Good afternoon and welcome," she said, smiling.
"It is important to note that this is not a safe profession. Stunt performers and stunt doubles die every year. No matter how highly trained or competent you are, it is not without risk."
[Plz to be waiting for the OCD is up! Have fun!]
"Good afternoon and welcome," she said, smiling.
"As I mentioned last week, today we will be talking about the profession of the stuntman."
"First I thought we would go over the defintion of a 'stunt'," she said, passing around the handout. "A stunt is an unusual and difficult physical feat, or any act requiring a special skill, performed for artistic purposes in theatre, television, or cinema."
"One of the most-frequently used practical stunts is stage combat. Although contact is normally avoided, many elements of stage combat, such as sword fighting, martial arts and acrobatics required contact between performers in order to facilitate the creation of a particular effect, such as noise or physical interaction."
"Other types of stunts are mechanical stunts, such as the harness and wire stunts found in martial arts films, or vehicular stunts, such as car chases."
"You could be a stunt double, a stunt performer, or a stunt coordinator," she said, passing around three more handouts. "While these job titles might sound quite similar, the details are dramatically different."
"There are even entire companies dedicated to this position, so you would not need to try and build a client list on your own. For instance, YoungBlood Services in England has made a reputation in the industry for providing quality services."
