Forensic Science - March 20th 5th period

Abby is sitting on one of the lab stools, spinning in a circle as the students enter. "I failed at tackling people this week so no talking dead people. So instead we're going to play with computer forensics."

"Not everything is blood, guts and fingerprints. A lot of times you'll be using computers to catch the bad guys." Abby described some of the programs. "Setting up crime scene analysis, tracing emails, tracking GPS, following bank accounts. That sort of thing."

Pointing out a stack of laptops, she grinned. "These are loaded up with every sort of forensic tool you'll need. Broots, Mac and Lucas? I'll be counting the laptops before you leave so don't get any ideas."

[ooc: OCD up!]

Billy frowned slightly. "Yep." He double checked the info to make sure he had the info on how to tell in his mind.

Ami pointed to the pelvis and the femur. "See the pelvis is shaped wider and the leg bone is shorter and turned out?"

"Oh yeah." Billy nodded. Deciding not to tell her how he'd initially mistaken a femur for an arm bone when last he did this exercise.

Good thing too, or she would have laughed. "Ok, the feet are the complicated part. There are like 200 bones there."

"That's like the pieces in a jigsaw puzzle with no bits of the picture on it."

"Yes. like 200 pieces of identical blue sky or something

"I hate those. The really small ones would be the tips of the toes right?"

"The really really tiny ones are for the arch of the foot. The toes look like dice. Sort of."

"D'oh." he was glad he asked. He found the ones that looked like dice, sort of.

"Alright i think that is the feet. Um. Arms next. The one with the round end is the radius, the other one is the ulna." She put them together in the lower arm. "did you know that that is how you tell fingerprint loops apart? they are radial if they point to the radius and ulnar if they point the other way."

"No I did not know that. I only knew that the computer can tell you if you get a match."

"You still have to classify it in the computer..."

Billy wrote that down.

"did you just write that down? Why?"

Re: Chatty thread

[identity profile] l1ttle-billy.livejournal.com 2007-03-23 01:55 am (UTC)(link)
"Well I wrote down the other stuff too, the radials and stuff. Thought it might be useful in my notes."

"Radius. And cool. Alright. Now, the skull and jaw bone. That's easy. The skull looks like it is all one piece but it isn't it is just fused."

Billy nodded. "That I remember from learning where the best places to hit someone are from last time."

"Aha." Billy said. "I knew it was so, I just didn't know why."

Re: Chatty thread

[identity profile] l1ttle-billy.livejournal.com 2007-03-24 01:29 am (UTC)(link)
"I should hope so." Billy said. "Otherwise I don't think we'd have gotten very far."

Re: Chatty thread

"True. I wonder what we will evolve into next..."

Re: Chatty thread

"Hopefully less violent."

Re: Chatty thread

"I so wish that was true... And a little bit it is. We no longer ALL go and fight..."

Billy nodded. "Evolution is a slow process."
