Civics - Art of Civil Disobedience Monday 4th Period - FIELD TRIP

When the class filed in today, they caught Jack mid-harangue. Standing near Peebee in an obvious pose of annoyance, hands on hips, eyes narrowed and lips tight. "..can't believe you did that! Do you know how much trouble that'll cause? What the hell were you thinking?!" She looked over and saw the students and dropped it. "We'll deal with this after class. Go sit down."

Peebee had one hand on her hip and was visibly rolling her eyes throughout the entire lecture. "It was a perfectly innocent experiment. Purely in the name of science. So everything in that room turned out to be super combustible? Great! Now we know that, don't we?"

She sketched an exaggerated bow, complete with one hand twirling in the air, and sauntered off to her seat looking completely unrepentant and in fact quite pleased with herself.

Jack still looked annoyed when she took roll. "Alright, so. Today's class is going to be about how not to get caught." She threw a hard glance at Peebee. "Because that's generally a bad life choice. Plus, it's sloppy. Don't be sloppy if you can help it."

The class was interrupted by a bunch of armored Troopers filing in. Jack looked up and frowned. "The he..ck do you guys want?"

Liam looked around the classroom, his expression grim. His gaze lingered on Peebee just a smidgen longer than it did on any of the other students.

“I’m afraid you’re all going to have to come with me,” he said, signaling with one hand to the Troopers, who began to move throughout the classroom, standing next to each desk and holding out a pair of handcuffs expectantly.

"Are they under arrest?" Jack challenged.

"Not yet," Liam said evenly. "So long as everyone co-operates. I'm just bringing them in for questioning."

"Heh." Peebee glanced from Liam to Jack, then back to Liam. "Whoops?"

Jack gave Liam a hard look. "I'll go with until we can get an actual child advocate in the room." She gave Peebee a short glance at the word 'child' that hopefully conveyed 'for the love of all that is right in the universe do not tell the cop your actual age'. "Alright, class," Jack drawled sarcastically, "I guess today's a field trip instead."

Yeah, Liam's stern demeanor might have cracked a little bit had he found out that Peebee was roughly seven times his own age.

"Let's go." The Troopers were still holding out those cuffs; privately Liam hoped that at least some of the students would remember they shouldn't have to be cuffed if they weren't being arrested.

Yeah, this didn't have set-up written all over it, though Astrid supposed she'd have to give props to the parties involved for making the set-up at least seem pretty convincing. A bit coincidental, really, but they sold it.

And Astrid would honestly have been fine with the cuffs, eespecially since she had no intentions of really fighting it, but...she paid attention. Getting needlessly cuffed was a no-no. So she pulled away a little at the trooper coming toward her and just stated, "I'm cooperating, and he," nodding to the sheriff, "said we're not under arrest."

And, because she couldn't help herself, she pointed out, "You guys didn't even cuff me the last time when I was."

Because she'd cooperated then, too.

Still cooperating. But still with the pointing out that she'd been through all this before.

"You guys already have all this on file," she noted. "I swear, I haven't burned off my fingertips since then."

Just because you'd done a decent job on stage a few weeks ago, Astrid, didn't mean you should consider yourself a comedienne all of a sudden, okay?

Astrid was sort of wondering if she should start poking around to see if her makeshift tattoo gun was still hidden in here somewhere, and, if she found it, if anyone else would be interested in joining her and Norman's oh-so-exclusive prison tat club.

Re: At the station - INTERROGATION!

So, after all the rigormorale and pageantry, Astrid was finally going to see what all this was about, which should be interesting, considering she had no idea what all this was about.

Except obviously reinstating previously learned lessons in an active enviroment to put them to the test. She'd overthrown interrogations even when she did know things; she had a feeling that this was going to be pretty cut and dry in a situation where she didn't.

I'm at work with only tiny phone internets until this evening; I'll try and sneak on if I can, but most likely the 'interrogation' will happen once I am hoooome.

"If we're not under arrest," Mae asked, side-eyeing those cuffs hard. "Then why do you need those?"

She was, like, 90% sure that this was a pop quiz. But those cuffs were bringing up some very unpleasant memories for her.

Mae walked along quietly. Completely quietly. She wasn't saying a single thing unless someone started asking her questions, in which case, her response was going to be to ask for a lawyer.

Plus, staying quiet made it way easier to pretend she wasn't inwardly losing her shit. Last time she'd been made to go to a police station hadn't been good. At least she wasn't being escorted by her aunt?

She glanced up at the trooper nearest her.

. . . Yeah, she was wishing she was being escorted by her aunt.

Mae balked, her determination not to speak cracking.

"If we're not being arrested," she said again. "Why do you need to do this?"

Mae would absolutely go for a prison tattoo.

"Aren't they supposed to let us make phone calls?" she asked.

She was totally going to call her Aunt Molly. For once make having a police officer in the family work for her.

Mae was back to being quiet. She was just going to sit here and check her boots for -- anything. That mud spatter kind of looked like a wolf. So that was cool. . . .

Re: At the station - Behind Bars

"Yeah," Astrid shrugged, "but I'm pretty sure we have to demand it if we want it."

The only person Astrid could call was her case worker, and she was pretty sure they pretty much had to do that, anyway, what with her being a minor and current ward of the state. And she was in no rush to get to any of that, especially for something that seemed pretty textbook set-up for class.

Where had she put that gun the last time? What were the odds that they'd have found it and moved it? Pretty slim, she thought, if she had been able to put the thing together in the first place last time.

"D'you think that's part of the test?" Mae mused. "To see if we demand our phone call?"

She rubbed at her own hands. There was nothing wrong with them, but last time she'd been in a situation like this, they'd been covered in drying blood. . . .
