Home Economics Class Sign-ups.
Good Afternoon, students of
fandomhigh!
My name is Mrs. Van De Kamp, and I am going to be chairing the Home Economics Department this year. I know that some of you may believe that Home Economics is a field of study that went out the way of the dinosaurs, but let me tell you, proper manners never go out of style.
Please sign up below, and indicate which class you would like to take. More specific details will follow at the first class meeting. And although Home Economics has traditionally been a female pursuit, I encourage both genders to sign up.
Home Economics 101
Tuesdays 9:00am-12:00pm
Home Economics 101 will be an exciting and informative overview into many areas of study. Each class will have a specific theme, like hygiene, sewing, and housecleaning. Several class projects will be assigned. We'll even learn how to knit so that you can make a sweater for yourself, your dog, even your high-powered assault rifle! For the first class, please read the introductory chapter of The American Frugal Housewife, because the theme to our class will be "Waste not, Want not."
Perfect Party Planning
Wednesdays 9:00am-12:00pm
Perfect Party Planning will dive right into the murky miasma that can result from trying to pull together that very special event. We will cover very difficult material in this class, viz: food and drink selection, seating arrangements, decorations, and dealing with the hired help. The final class project will be to host a party for their fellow students and teachers, although students will be expected to organize several other small gatherings as individuals and groups. Please come to the first class with a 100 word essay on "The Best Party I Ever Attended," and make sure to highlight what made that party special for you!
TBA: There will also be several seminars open to the entire student body throughout the year. They will be worth 1 credit hour each, if you need to make up classes. The first will be Advanced Etiquette, and will occur later this month.
Classes will begin tomorrow, and an updated roster and syllabus will be available at the first class. If you need to speak to Mrs. Van De Kamp, her office hours are posted here, feel free to stop by anytime.
